On the subject of "upsetting" however, by abusing the people of this forum it seems ok for you to upset your readers, let me remind you without your readers you dont have a paper. Are your bookmaker friends or "tipsters" going to take out adverts if you continue to ridicule the very people who support your paper. You can kiss goodbye to another £750 a year as I am now drawing the line for your latest cheapshot.

Well it's better than last weeks words of wisdom:"It is a journalist's primary function to ask probing questions in a bid to get to the heart of the truth, and the world is a far better place for that."
I both read the RP and contrbute to the Betfair forum, as I imagine many others do.
But apparently, according to Bruce Millington the two are mutually exclusive.
So I will have to stop one or the other. Bye Bye Racing Post.

Bruce had a right go at the Forum a few years back, with his famous statement "not fit to be let loose with crayons, or something along those lines?. He was getting a little bit of stick at the time, but after the Forum got wind of his infamous article he's been torn a new one ever since.
Better off if he had kept his mouth shut as it had the opposite effect and backfired big time.

On the big stories and questions affecting racing and punters, the Racing Post is nowhere to be seen.

Here is his infamous statement for those who never seen it,
"I hope Betfair does something about its increasingly pathetic forum, where one by one the shrewd, witty, insightful contributors have drifted away to be replaced by people who are not safe to be let loose with a crayon let alone a keyboard. How a respectable company like Betfair, which prides itself on the transparency of its product, allows itself to play host to such feeble, nasty, predictable, pocket-talking, barely regulated, anonymous viewpoints is utterly beyond me."

Wouldn't you think that a publication that purports to represent the interest of the punter, carrying out hard hitting investigative reporting into some of the obvious problems that racing has?
Apologies if I missed them I no longer waste my money buying it.

I have not bought the post for nearly six years now & the next time I buy it will be when there is a double page spread on how the high street bookie has totally failed the punter.
So that will be never I suspect.

your paper will stand up for the punter when it starts asking:
Why bookmakers care more about their FOBT users than their horse racing punters Why bookmakers refer anything over £20 each way to their traders and won't take a proper bet Why bookies are allowed to close down accounts of anyone they have to pay a decent bet to, or who show any sort of price savvy
When your paper starts its campaign for bookmakers to have to advertise (preferably on oddschecker) how much they will stand to every price they advertise, you will be the paper that is the punters' friend. Before then, don't waste your breath.

Maybe Betfair could organise a meeting with a small number of forum members, Bruce and some of his journalists to discuss the issues highlighted on here and the issues Bruce has with this forum.
The outcome of the meeting could be shared with forumites and reported in the Racing Post.
Refreshment at the meeting could be a half of lager, roughly the price of the Racing Post.

I haven't bought The Racing Post for over four years and will never do so again and yet I should be their very target audience as we all should be on here. A tatty, pointless rag which is just a vehicle to promote advertising from bookmakers.

That comment is just way beyond contempt.

Cycling is probably the cleanest sport around these days, although its clearly had its fair share of problems. But at least cycling has gone through the storm and come out the other side. There are a whole host of other sports that will have to go through what cycling already has done. There are clearly horrendous drug problems in football, tennis and horse racing amongst others, but everyone from the fans to journalists to the governing bodies have their heads in the sand about it.

"He certainly seems to have an unusually strong dislike of this forum. Perhaps it's because it's the only place in the racing world where topics that his paper won't even address are discussed openly and it shows his rag up to be the bookie's benefit publication we all know it is. He must be a very sad little man to bring up the Betfair forum in an article on Twitter abuse. Pathetic really."
Well said Bilbo and that pretty much sums up my own views and that of the vast majority of us on here.

How many betting shops are there nowadays and is it safe to assume that every one buys a Rancid Post? I thought there were at least 8000 (probably nearer to 10K) and so that figure of 72,184 for that particular month) divided by 31 makes an average daily figure of 2328 (are the numbers right? They can't ALL be for the shops - as nobody on here seems to admit buying it nowadays (I'm another that gave up about 6 years ago) so how viable does that make the limp organ?
Is there a chance they'll get buggered or do they make so much from the shíthouse bookmakers adverts they're comfortable?

Apart from the use of the word "grotty", there's nothing in his article which is factually incorrect. As for his apppearance on the Morning Line, he was correct, the RP costs the same as a half pint of lager. I do not understand why people who dissaprove so much of the Post just don't stop buying/reading it.

I like how he says he "refutes" claims that they're in the bookmakers pockets.
It seems Bruce's idea of "refuting" that is by continuing to ignore the disreputable behaviour that these companies get up to, filling the pages with advertising, and having a "Betting Shop Manager of the Year" award - the winners of which just happen to think FOBTs are wonderful.

It's difficult to believe that the main newspaper in the sport behaves in such an odious manner to their very supposed customers as it does now. Sir Clement Freud will be spinning in his grave at to what has become of racing journalism and the infestation of the gravy train slurpers now in office. All too afraid of their own shadows to actually say it how it is.

A couple of weeks ago, he was moaning about sports commentators, football in particular.
He griped about how many players are wearing gloves. Saying Smith is in for Jones, without naming the full teams.
The next week he moaned about people who 'moaned about commentators'.
People who complained about the antics of commentators @ the Winter Olympics, should get a life.

I have bought the Racing Post everyday since it started, before that the Sporting Life and will continue to do so.
Millington is obsessed with this place and as others have said can give it but can't take it.
He carried out a one man campaign against Peter Alliss some years back that was vicious and sustained as well as being wrong, his complaints were he was too old made too many references to old golf clubs. He also hadn't done his homework whilst he was carrying on his weekly attacks it emerged he had no idea how good a golfer Alliss was.
In the early sixties Peter Alliss played in Woodbrook in Ireland,he shattered the course record with a 62 leading to this sports headline.

How they could do that on here baffles me but hey ...
They are all journos on the Racing Post and all are winners..
They can rule the World (or at least the 30 000 who still buy the paper at full cover price......)

Irishone knows the score imo. Does anyone seriously believe that any newspaper owner in their right mind would give Millybags any editorial authority? I'd bet Millybags can't even authorise the purchase of some paper clips without it being signed off, let alone decide upon editorial content. Just look at what happened at the lowest point in RP history when they suffered a security breach, Millbags sent out an e-mail to customers and couldn't even spell his own name...

In 1986 The Sporting Life cost 25 pence. The Racing Post costs £2.30 on Sat/Sun 2014. In 2005 sales of The Racing Post were circa 93,500 dropping year on year to 72,000 in 2007, 55,000 in 2009 and 47,000 by 2013. My graph tells me that if the average reader aint prepared to pay a fiver a copy come 2020 then the paper will fold. Bye bye Brucie, never read your drivel anyway. It was tosh.
