Regit,Wetherby was hopeless,31 books in tatts, last year was bad but like you I thought the weather may improve things a little,so you could say this meeting has peaked!

By:
regit, if you bid 17k the vendor can take it even if it hasn't reached reserve. Your bid is binding.

Wasnto - what was wrong with your chelt tatts pick 46, paddy power saturday looked ok last year , wouldnt champion hurdle day and gold cup day be decent?
By:
Davy - we bet in tatts for over 20 years. In the end it when it came to my pick there wasn't any pitch I wanted to bet in so that was the time to turn it in. The last gold cup day we bet there we stood in the middle of the 2nd line and fielded £250 on the foxhunters :O
By:
And a mediocre pitch in the Best Mate by comparison takes what wassy ?
By:
Surely you would be fielding a few grand on the big races from that pitch, i know the hcaps and foxhunters can be a bit tricky.

Is it possible to say how much % approx. the value of pitches has dropped over the last 10 years, rails and ring.
During the last 10 years both online, and exchange betting have really come to the fore, not to mention other things,so was wondering how much this has impacted on the value of pitches. I understand that some key picks may have actually increased, but what is the overall picture, bearing in mind that there are only so many top picks? Answers appreciated, thanks in advance. |

If ever there was an argument for a graduated badge fee to be introduced with immediate effect then Cheltenham Tatts is it.......

RR,YOU ARE WASTING YOUR TIME,ILLUMINATI WANTED PEOPLE LIVING IN A 50K TERRACE HOUSE TO PAY THE SAME AS SOMEONE LIVING A 2 MILLION POUND MANSION UNTIL THE POLL TAX RIOTS,NOW WE HAVE THE BAND SYSTEM(GRADUATED BADGE FEE),I SUPPOSE WE COULD RISE UP AND HAVE THE CHELTENHAM RIOTS,BUT IT DOESNT HAVE THE SAME RING

I'm sure the negotiators will be in favour - the worse pick you've got the more you pay !!!

The only books that want graduated badge fees are the ones who've put phuck all in and have the least to lose

THATS THE MAJORITY THEN!

By:
AS OPPOSED TO THE ONES THAT AGREED TO A MARKETING FEE WHO WERE **** SCARED OF LOSING EVERYTHING!
By:
the truth hurts
remember saying this before, been racing for many years the bookmakers have always thought of one thing THEMSELVES always have always will. |
By:
Where did it all go wrong fact, the Illummanti were supposed to be the only people on track by now...... taking all the turnover going and throwing it all back on here for a bigger guaranteed profit............. instead record numbers of books are turning up going bigger than the machine offering a proper service to the small number of paying customers still attending the track associations have lost all but a small amount of credibility and individual negotiations by pitcholders with racecourses direct have now taken precedent....
By:
545APG - that just is not true ! Answer the question 'do you think the system is fair ?'. The stock answer of 'you know the situation when you buy the pitch' just will not do. I know this issue has been debated many times on here but I repeat 'Is it fair ?'.
By:
WELL FOR A START THE MARKETING FEE AGREED TO BY ILLUMINATI WAS A STEP(OR SO THEY THOUGHT)TO GET RID OF THE SMALLER BOOKMAKER,WHEN IN ACTUAL FACT ITS DONE QUITE THE OPPOSITE,MORE BOOKS FEEL THEY ARE OBLIGED TO TURN UP AT MORE MEETS AFTER PAYING THIS TOTAL RIP OFF!
By:
I sometimes get this strange feeling of deja vu.......
By:
Wassy it's not really a 14 next to the Jan look closely it says 13
By:
Fact can you confirm if there is any truth in the rumour that as a result of the Marketing Fee not reducing the number of books in attendance that they have have turned to the major petrol retailers to lobby for an extra 20p a litre on all types of fuel.....
By:
WASNOT,YEP I GET THAT FEELING EVERYTIME OUR NEGOTIATORS REACH A DEAL WITH THE RACECOURSES!

You are quite right to do so wassy - Happy New Year to you and yours by the way. In the absence of a response hitherto may I be allowed to try to answer my own question ( no need to call the chaps in white coats - yet !! ). The brief answer is 'No - it is not fair'. Cast your mind back to pre pitch sales and in particular before exchanges existed and perhaps you can maintain that the system worked perfectly well then but why doesn't it now ? More to the point in those 'golden days' the system could even have been considered to be fair or more accurately fairer. Terms and conditions have changed radically since then, of course, especially for the lower ( inferior ) picks. Turnover has reduced, one of the main contributory reasons being that superior picks no longer hedge with the back lines of the ring and badge fees amonst other costs have, thanks to the agreements put in place, increased making life for those with moderate picks even more challenging. The case for the defence is ?

Oops 'amongst other costs'.
