I wanted 80 quid each way on a horse for the paddy power I had to use 3 phone accounts and 2 shops,
its about time something was done about these wasters masquerading as bookmakers.

- win a bit lose a bit try no to do too much damage

- gesticulate a lot, head in hands etc

- say things like 'Red is "due" 'these are my lucky numbers' .... etc

- go up to the counter looking flustered

- have your bet on the horse

With regard to all these joke bookies, I read a new book last week entitled Speaking With Forked Tongues
by someone called Mick McDermott. It lambasts, with evidence all the leading bookies for closing accounts,
restricting people to SP only or offering pathetic bets in response to modest requests. It also states quite clearly
that the entire racing media wont go near the issue as many are closely linked to bookmaker money.

so journalists/media are part of the racing mafia..thats true you dont ever hear them talk about this issue...so they all continue to get on,,,blackmail i suppose..but they are all on for the ride
im just a small stakes punter the odd lucky 15 etc..but had some winning months and getting restricted all over the place...time to get on and make this a much bigger issue.
i think there is much credence in what you say when you read journo blogs and bits of stories about there punting day and the amounts they are betting in,
usual stuff about  a them and us issue  and frankly dont weall get fed up with gettin a feckin raw deal
the elite dont  care at all so long as they are all aboard the gravy train

I know a well known RUK pundit who is a professional punter , he told me basically he only gets on because of his high profile in the game.

I vowed that if any bookmaker refused to take one of my bets ,I would oppose their license, but I only have a bet in the bookmakers3/4 times a month and they are normally a treble or an accumalator when I take the wife shopping.

they rarely refuse a bet altogether frank but will restrict stakes & go sp only on a regular basis.
i had a terrific argument with a baldy manager about his sp only restriction on a race which the poster behind him declared was best odds "guaranteed"
sadly he was too fic to see the contradiction.

its a wonderful read and also very funny- 3 titbits from the book 1 boyles more likely to come across dr livingstone
than anyone with a usable boylesport account 2 skybet in order for skybet staff to see money they would have to be
taken on a day trip to the vaults of the bank of England 3 Ladbrokes had they been around at the time of the crimea war
they would only have been paying first four on the charge of the light brigade (673 runners). I also like the picture
painted of the 3 shepherds calling into a betfred shop in Bethlehem on their way to the stable to see jesus and fred
done seated by an fobt inside Westminster abbey giving us all a xmas blessing.

Bet365 - bet 3 days - reduced liability now to £100/event
Betfred - still have account although liability is £200
VC Bet - 2 day account closed
Stan James - 1 day(3bets) account closed
Betfair (sportsbook) - 2 weeks, liability restricted (cant quite work out what to apprx £200)
WM Hills & Corals - account still active although I do spread bets between 2 (trying to stay under radar)
Boyle - 2 days - Closed
Paddy - Liability reduced to £100
Ladbrokes - 2 days - "can no longer offer you BOG or any bonuses" liability now approx £200

Swift - Have you tried getting a couple of hundred on here on a morning on something that is not below 6/4? Stick it up and you wont get matched, or will do for peanuts before £2 jumps in front of your bet.

I realise the books are running a business but some decisions are just pathetic. If they had proper compilers rather than the accountants they have (the biggest arbers going no doubt) then they could lay a decent bet. All the apologists on here tell you that you shouldn't bet with a book if they are top price or if they are above the Betfair price. Why not? Surely any punter would want the best return for his/her money.

I stupidly thought the whole point of going top price would be to attract money as you still think you are laying below the true price, and when you have been filled you then cut the price, but now anyone who takes top price are automatically marked or called an arber - which is just daft.
Report northanlite November 19, 2013 1:40 PM GMT
totaaly agree jammer, surely to god if a firm is top price it is because they want to get it in the book???

I can fill in your comments for ya

You: "you're joking! back at BF SP and miss the best price"
Me: "You don't know that, are you saying that you can consistently predict the BF SP for each horse?"
You: "No, but I want the BOG price"
Me: "Well, in that case, you cannot blame the bookie for restricting you if you are consistently winning money off him"
You (stamping foot): "I want to back with the bookie at BOG unrestricted!"
But if you can consistently predict which horses are going to be lower at BF SP than in the morningsat
Report Big Boss November 19, 2013 1:49 PM GMT
if the bookies cant trade your bets for risk free profit on a consistent basis then they don't want your business.

Well, in that case, you cannot blame the bookie for restricting you if you are consistently winning money off him

You're missing the point, bookmakers are restricting customers before they even have a chance of winning.

My latest 365 account lasted 5 bets. I was £248 down and got restricted. I never follow any tipster, and I didn't beat the bf price. The only "sin" was to beat sp (which I couldn't possibly have forecasted).

As previously said, why offer the price if you don't want it taken ?
Report Sccoby November 19, 2013 1:59 PM GMT
Q. Would you lay 2/1 about a 6/4 shot ???
A. NO

If you don't want to lay 2/1 then don't stick it up there !!!
and then don't punish your account who take it !!
Simple !!
Report rcing November 19, 2013 2:00 PM GMT
WFT , at a guess i would say bookmakers are now restricting accounts if you dont bet on various sports , roulette , arcades , reality tv etc .

if you just bet on 1 type of sport , the chances are higher that you may win , or not lose as much as they would like you too.
Report swift-tuttle November 19, 2013 2:04 PM GMT
you're arguing against what is actually happening
what's the point?
you don't have any control over the situation, you can't take the bookie to court for restricting you
just find another way and stop your constant whinging

Swift - Why would I back at BF SP if I don't know what price it is going to be, surely the whole game is about price? I never used to have BOG in the shops before the internet etc and didn't worry, but back then the books were books imo. My local lads wouldn't worry about taking 500 on a horse at the advertised price back in the 90s, now they have to ring up for £50.

Although it's nothing to do with them being arcades and online casinos etc....risk free....
