Basically I have many races recorded off TV onto DVD dating back from 1985 to the present day, many of them I dont have the trainers/jockeys names to the races, too many to mention here, I have spent ages trying to find websites with full results dating back to 1985 but cant find them anywhere,I would have thought that this kind of info would be online, but I will look at the "Onlooker" site Wesdag.

You won't find an online site that is set up to give you what you want.

The RP has results from before 1989, but they aren't searchable.

If you know the name of a horse in a race you want, and it raced from '89 onwards, you can go back in time with that horse on the RP site if you are a member.

Otherwise, your onlky chance is the Glasgow Herald online, but those are just scans of the newspaper, and they aren't complete.

i though RP went back further than 1989...

RP do have some races from 88-89 but not all of them

the RP isn't reliable, searching on date, for before the mid-90s. eg if you put in 3 July 1989, all it shows you is Tramore's results.

ged, so if Ima member of RP i can get info from a horse's name as I have every horse name and can I be a member just for say one month ged?

Build a time machine ? That should do the trick

StewB, they have some from before that too, but they aren't searchable, you need to know the race_id to go to a known race - so the only logical way (as far as i know) to dig them out is to go back in time using a particular horse, but you have to be a member. Alternatively, you could run through the race_ids from 1 onwards!!

StewB - it would only be useful if the horse existed in the searchable database, which probably means it would have to have raced from late '88 onwards - but even then, it's not reliable - it's not meant to be - the database is not maintained from those years, but some data is still there - it'll just add a bit to what is searchable.

I found an old postcard, around 1909 vintage say, where the sender said he fancied a filly by Essence etc...

I asked him if he could find out anything and was taken aback when he came back to me and said it was unplaced!  So he must have some research archive I would think

But if you try to find it on the Glasgow Herald site, you find the issue is not available that day.

However, the Herald is available for the Saturday before (Nov hcap day), and shows full race cards...

but the November hcap itself is not, as far as I can see, on the RP site (I tried tracking back using Stavordale, who ran in the race).

I have a Sporting Life results for 1986 - all 3921 races covered, and the Ruffs Guide to the Turf 1986 (which includes the SL results for 1985 - just the 3895 this time)

FULL, detailed, Results of ALL races - before 1989 - areNOT available on ANY website - or anywhere On-Line.

I cannot see how they ever can be, either -

The logistics of  creating a SEARCHABLE 'Race to Race'/'Horse to Horse' site in a workable LINKAGE format - would involve a MASSIVE MANUAL Data input, on top of structuring such a Site.

Without such a workable LINKAGE Display facility - it would be pretty POINTLESS - as, otherwise, When/IF you DID find a Horse you were looking for, then you would ONLY find ONE race, at each individual attempt - and then you would keep finding that SAME ONE race, EACH time - unless you kept 'shooting in the dark', and trying other RANDOM earlier Dates, after Dates, after Dates.

Without having actual the actual Meetings/Dates and Race times already at your fingertips - which 99% of Searchers would NOT have - as that is why most would be Searching - Where would you start.

I appreciate that you do have Dates and Meetings etc - but I can assure you - from the many queries that I have answered on here - YOU are in that paltry 1% - if it is even that.

The reason that I have been able to answer people's questions, on here -
is because I have All the FORM BOOKS ... that being the ONLY way to find the information that you require.... MANUALLY.

I would think Raceform Interactive could possibly supply discs of results.
Years ago they used to charge £50 for a full year disc.

You will only get the 1,2,3 from the results though but you can see all the daily racecards

Try Superform.  Seen many on Amazon or Racing Book websites. Im looking at 1987 and 1988 on Amazon now.
