Surprised no threads...
Personally I´ve got it narrowed down to about 10. Think Sea Moon has the class and will come out the best of Hickmott´s seven runners, and might be helped by his stablemates. Simenon could go well but the ground might just be a bit lively for him. Obviously Dandino and Fiorente have big chances. Brown Panther and Mount Athos have disappointed too often for my liking. Dunaden could go well but the one draw and top weight might be enough to scupper his chances of winning. Royal Empire is interesting with Kerrin McEvoy and the Aga Khan´s runner is an unknown quantity, but Red Cadeaux and Voleuse should be beaten by starting in the car park.
Don´t know anything about the jockey but taking a chance that Sea Moon´s class will pull through.

Miaow .... I was happy to take the implication that the OP was referencing a day of the race thread, but hey why not jump straight in with a smug reply.
Disappointing to see the extent to which the race is dominated by Euro horses these days personally, though I do like Royal Empire as a horse.

On the balance of probability the winner:-
will probably not have been bred in the UK, Aus or NZ
will probably have won a Group race at some point in its lifetime
will probably have won at 1 mile 4 furlongs already
probably drawn no lower than 5, no higher than 17
probably trained in Aus, Fra or Ire
probably won a race with at least 14 runners or more
probably ran in the last 20 days
Apply all that:
Seville and Green Moon with Fiorente missing only by having won a race with 13 runners not 14
will probably not have been bred in the UK, Aus or NZ
will probably have won a Group race at some point in its lifetime
will probably have won at 1 mile 4 furlongs already
probably drawn no lower than 5, no higher than 17
probably trained in Aus, Fra or Ire

Sea Moon also fits all your stat credentials except one (by 4 days)
And Seville finished over 10 lengths behind easy winner Sea Moon at York.
Long Cup races are difficult to call. 2 against the field would be Brown Panther and Verema, shouldn't be anywhere near purely on form.

Just seen the 2012 race. Damien Oliver bumped Ryan Moore on Mount Athos twice in the last 3f or MA would have gone close.
Sea Moon, could be too classy if it stays the trip. Brown Panther was pretty impressive upped to 2m at Goodwood & Voleuse De Coeurs is improving rapidly. Poor draw, but that Irish St Leger win was pretty awesome.

often the race is a stop start affair, he should run it out if its a sprint home.
do stewards give more leeway this race,ie anything goes

as i suggested, flemington track upgraded to good 3 and drying. sea moon has good form of late on dry tracks and all 4 wins by masked marvel have been on dry tracks.
european stayers thrive on the harder ground in oz. every horse in the race has a real chance to win.

That's the first time I've ever backed the winner of the Melbourne Cup.
Ryan Moore with an even worse ride this year on Dandino than he gave Mt Athos last year. 
That race is on a different level to the self proclaimed world championships in yankee land.

Looks like Brown Panther picked up an injury during the race, being reported as severe lacerations to fore legs.
Just as well they dont give penalties in racing he would have gone down. Seriously hope he is ok - latest reports good.
