OG best run was on fast ground behind Moonlight Cloud when she broke the course record. I don't think the ground will be a problem.

Yeah  only Excelebration, Moonlight Cloud and Animal Kingdom behind him last year

Actually JMC tonight WD won a race from 3 horses who have won only a single Group 1 win between them. And that was possibly a lucky win on the Polytrack.

Why not compare it with Magician winning from a multiple Group 1 winner, a multiple Group 1 winner was 3rd and a multiple Group 1 winner was 4th.

You believe the hype if you want.

Firstly JMC I haven't lost tonight and secondly 'what the f u k are you talking about?'

My point is Wise Dan will get all the publicity for beating trees whereas The Magician beat a proper field.

And I think you will find in last years race he beat Animal Kingdom who had only won a claimer on turf and Obviously who hadn't won a Grade 1 eitherExcited

The really sad thing here is your actually just trying to argue for no reason, are you lonely or something??? Your writing points that have no relevance to what I wrote. What has Magician got to do with anything????
Clearly you are sore on backing Olympic Glory dont be getting anger with others for your poor decisions! If your just lonely start a thread with your "points" and stop randomly ranting
Report ebulGery November 3, 2013 12:22 AM GMT
only 3 as well Olympic Glory, unless your brilliant better to go at 4 imo

he may have had enough for the season
Report brigust1 November 3, 2013 12:26 AM GMT
Dom he wasn't the 2nd best horse in my opinion as many will know. But the trees thing was more about this years race, If you took Olympic Glory and Wise Dan out it wasn't a Grade 1 race at all. So when OG clearly never ran his race WD is all we will hear about. Unlike The Magician where The Fugue ran her race.

I did back OG but I also backed WD as a saver actually. The rest I will leave with you. And you think I am aguing when you are highlighting everything in black and abusing people ffs. And you suggest I am lonely?

Good summary Sin. I will be having a punt of DOW because I think AOB has only just got to know him. Plus I don't rate the current dirt crop, their form is not great imo. Though I have to say my knowledge is very limited. I often have svers etc but not in this case it will just be a punt.
I have no idea what was wrong with The Magician but as AOB blames himself for running him at Ascot I'm hoping they have got things right now. He is Gr1 winner and has won at 10f so may not be a lost cause. This is one for the home team I think.
Report brigust1 November 3, 2013 12:36 AM GMT
The mile will be interesting. I have never rated Wise Dan and thought we would beat him this time but had hoped the other Hannon horse would come. Still there you are. I see nothing in the home team beating him so it looks like Olympic Glory at their prices and Wise Dan at ours. Again given the prices I will make OG my winner.

brigust just out of interest why do you want to back wise dan at there prices and olympic glory at ours??

for what it is worth i think wise dan will be longer over there around the 11-8 mark rather than here at evens at present...plus vice versa with olympic glory who i think will be around 4-1 over there and 6-1 on here today if you want it

Wise Dan is a front runner/up with the pace type and will hug the rail if drawn low and it gets out well but tonight it had a poor draw, didn't get out and could never get to the front. If you then factor in it had to come wide and seemed to take the bend awkwardly (probably due to having to do its racing far too early as a result of everything previously mentioned) then it's a testament to the horse's class that it was still able to get up and win.

The horse was in trouble due to the disadvantages it faced and that can close the margin of victory between better horses and lesser ones and it would be daft to take that run on face value.
Report brigust1 November 3, 2013 12:46 AM GMT
If you want an honest appraisal of Wise Dan's opponents throughout his career you should read Sam Walker in the Post Ima.
Report ima_mazed66 November 3, 2013 12:53 AM GMT
They've not all been great shakes brigust1 but the horse can only beat what rivals it and Excelebration, Moonlight Cloud, Animal Kingdom and Olympic Glory are all very good horses as ones we know of anyway if maybe not as familiar with the US horses.

Regardless though you don't win as many as WD has unless fairly useful.
Report ebulGery November 3, 2013 2:17 AM GMT
for once brigust1 you have lost meConfused

of course Wise Dan is top class..he beats nearly everything put in front of him

as for Magician, well superbly placed by AOB, but the quality of that race was woeful

I should think the first 10 home in the Arc would have won that, and probably The Fugue should have

she was the only one with real quality, the rest just journeyman American horses imo

be no more than GR 2 in Europe imo

just an opinion
Report brigust1 November 3, 2013 11:51 AM GMT
Don't be a lost soul Ebul.

I know Wise Dan has won lots of races but it is what you beat that matters in my opinion. And I think these races need to be put into context.

In Wise Dan's last 10 wins the horses that finished 2nd to him in those races have won a total of ONE Group one race between them on that particular surface throughout their careers. That must tell you just how weak these races are and the quality of the opposition against him.

It is true he has beaten potentially the 3 best European runners in the last 2 seasons including Olympic Glory, Moonlight Cloud and Excelebration. And in some ways the form adds up though Excelebration, Moonlight Cloud and Ciyscape. However some say there were excuses for the poor consistently running of these horses but if that is their true running what do you think it says about our top milers over the last 3 or 4 years?

And I'm sorry your point about Magician is silly.
Report ebulGery November 3, 2013 12:57 PM GMT
ok brigust1...oh I am definitely a lost soulLaugh

I see one of Wise Dan's defeats was 2nd to Ron The Greek on dirt giving him 4lb...that was good form

I do not have your knowledge of handicapping brigust1 I admit thatBlush

but this is a game of opinions
Report brigust1 November 3, 2013 1:21 PM GMT
You may be right about Ron the Greek but after that win he has been beaten in 8 starts and a total of almost 60 lengths with one win in a Conditions race where the odds on favourite pulled up. Of course he did win his last race at 20/1 and almost 18 months after he beat Wise Dan. Doesn't sound all that great to me. Wink
Report ebulGery November 3, 2013 3:05 PM GMT
His last win was impressive, would have gone close in BC

Wise Dan has beaten all the Europeans milers who have taken him on. I would not crib him

What more can he doConfused
Report ebulGery November 3, 2013 3:09 PM GMT
On his own tracks of course

I am not saying he would do the same at Ascot

but then he is not the only miler who stuck to his own tracks

and he is not claiming to be the best horse of all time either

there have been better winners of the Breeders mile...but at the moment

he is the manCool
Report brigust1 November 3, 2013 3:14 PM GMT
I can't argue with that but I think the American Press will. They think he has ducked all the issues and gone for a list of soft targets. I can't blame the trainer because he only has a few horses and 600k in Canada will do nicely.

I just think a champion must beat better quality horses otherwise he is just the best horse around and they come around every other year. He didn't beat Gio Ponti when they met and Gio Ponti retired. No-one knows what would have happened had GP stayed in training but he was proved to be only decent because he took a few chances.
Report ebulGery November 3, 2013 3:49 PM GMT
I thought he was voted their horse of the year last yearShocked

although I suspect you have an advantage of knowledge over me brigust1

is their any N.American 8f turf horse he has avoided, and why was that horse not in the Breeders mileConfused

I suspect the Americans think any horse that runs on turf not dirt is ducking the issue

all I am saying is, he is the best around at the moment , what is wrong with thatConfused

Champions come along very rarely, Frankel was one, possibly Detroit this year

American dirt horses seem to beat each other a lot, so I don't know if MuchoMuchoMan qualifies as a champion

but top horse 10f dirt this year

of course Ron The Greek did not run in classicMischief
