Been a couple of times, BETFAIR worked for me on my laptop, although a few bookies were blocked.

using a local isp it varies, most block gambling sites but not all, I've stayed at 3 places where it wasn't a problem and I could use a laptop on the hotel wifi, but it will depend on which place you are staying

failing that your phone app should work anyway

Been there once. Was ok but wouldn't go back. Boring unless you like shopping.

I went to Meydan this year, you can access Racing Post on line. I had put all my bets on my laptop in the morning. People all around were using there phones to bet. You buy beer, drink vouchers from a table and they have a large bar, drinking area and a pint is about £6.

I broke up a London to Bangkok flight & stayed  2-3  nights in Dubai. Went to Meydan..free entry but no punting allowed. Internet was a disaster..all useful punting sites blocked. I was glad in a way to try it, but I would not be in a rush to venture to Dubai again

Knew an expat who reckoned Dubai was a great place to live and work (air-conditioned and tax-free) and fantastic for a week's holiday but awful for a fortnight's holiday, because you'd run out of things to do.

What is the security like at Meydan? We once had a three day stopover in Dubai before it became the place it is today. We went to a Camel racing track out in the desert and the place was knee deep with machine gun totting soldiers guarding the Sheikh and his family.
We went by taxi and an officer told the driver where to park. He told he had told him to wait for us and that we should not pay him for waiting time. I wanted to take pictures of the Pakistani boy jockeys and a group of the lined up for me but a soldier came over and said it wasn't allowed

Worse comes to worse then just ring betfair and use your Telephone A/C number. Everyone has one. Click on My Details and its on the right hand side of the screen.

...well click on your My Details...not my my details.....that would be dumb.

Use to be a backdoor through the old RP site where you could bet with your bookmaker through there...don't know if that still works. It worked because your betslip would open up in the RP site (obviously still linked to the bookmaker) but it wasn't banned (as opposed to if you tried to open up a site for bookmaker in a new window).

btw...I also know someone who did inrunning betting on his laptop at Nad Al Sheba back in the day. I know because I was standing right next to the dude!

Meydan is not like that at all, just like any big meeting in the UK. It's funny, there is a free part like somebody said which is right in front of winning post where mainly locals go and just further down there is a large stand all seated, with bars and food outlets. The Dubai world cup night is really good.

Dubai is ok, brand new and spotlessly clean.  The price of beer in the Irish bars are cheaper than in London, but give me Majorca any time.

You can get yourself a VPN that links you directly to a UK server so your internet behaves as if you were in UK. You have to find a working one though - the Dubai authorities block the ones they know about. But that's how local expats get all their UK TV etc. Dubai's a great place if you know where to look. Went on an amazing 'pub crawl' there once!
