But it is outdated,in this decimal age. When in the ring ,and all are 4/1,and I see one book going 4.1,or4.2,he will get my bet.Yes ,I know you had a joke of an experimental day's trial, which was a total farce, but going 4.2 is easily readable, whereas 17/4 to many means?
By:
i would have thought that going 4.3 instead of 100-30 would be beneficial to bookie and easier to understand from the punters eye......3.70 in stead of 11-4 the same and so on

By:
and i would have thought that instead of 60 years plus members of the b.p.a. taking OUR industry forward when there on there last legs with the game is not exactly the way forward

I was there and punting in Tatts. I bet on the race in question e/w before the horse was withdrawn. Went for the best price and forgot to check e/w terms
![]() Definitely got a ticket saying 1/5th odds 1-2-3-4 |
By:
lol johnny , I do have one of those prices [ but only one ] available in my computer.
a do go 21/10 occasionally , mainly because I don't like 85/40 |
By:
bookmakers still out there happy to fk everybody including the punter ,,,,lol a very apt reply adge

The BRM had to ask 14 bookmakers to bet to the correct place terms in Tatts and 4 on the rails. Many were still priced up with the horse which had been withdrawn even No 1 on rails was betting to wrong terms. I do not believe it was deliberate. The storm that descended on Cheltenham at the time of withdrawn announcement, made it difficult for bookmakers to hear and the computer operators seemed slow to change terms.
By:
i'm really quite amazed to hear that the terms don't automatically default back to 1/4 123 with RDT.
By:
now if they weren't changed to 1/5 in the first place that would solve the problem...........
By:
Could it have been a genuine mistake though? you can have the wrong sign up but still be betting correct, did you see a ticket with 1/5 odds maxed?
![]() Sounds like a genuine mistake , you fcukers don't miss anything, every tiny percentageis mapped, every trick in the book used. Are you suggesting your buddies weren't aware they were betting 1/5 of odds, it's not likely is it, maybe it was banks. You're all descended from the shelvey family![]() The Peaky Blinders have nothing on you fcukers ![]() |
By:
spot on , intheknow , but the software being changed by RDT is the part I have a problem with.
and the default not to be put right until January ? come on , pull the other one. |
By:
unbiased - your comment about decimal odds is ridiculous! you are claiming it would be like the good old days of a competitive ring. is this the good old days of betting to figures circa 4/5% a runner pre exchange. wake up and smell the coffee .... oncourse punters have never had it so good!!
By:
oncourse punters get great value - great prices with no commission, good service by most books, very rarely knocked back to the extent of high street shops, place bets of substantial amounts without liquidity problems thrown up by exchange markets. come on enjoy it while it lasts lads befor the books wake up!
By:
I agree with adge, for Rdt to leave such a basic bug in the system for so long is very poor. I have been using Elite for the last two years who have their own in house programmer and this would have been fixed overnight.

Great News about AGT creating 2 lists at Aintree - a Grand National List & an OFF List. Who on earth would want to buy an off pitch at aintree - 3 men and a dog attend the off meetings there and that's when they use to give free tickets based on Grand National Sales.
Why dont they split Cheltenham Festival into 2 lists March Festival & Paddy Power. |
By:
I think Aintree are under the impression that there are loads of bookmakers that want to go to the off meetings if tey had a better number :D I assume this has come from those with the better numbers who want to sell the 'off' before anyone realises how bad it is. To be honest they could lump the Thursday of the national meeting in with the 'off' as well.
By:
The "off" in the good positions used to be very good until the new stand was built which now encourages everyone to bet with the 7 in the county stand which consequently are very good.

Typicalreply,as fully expected, from racingsnake re. using decimal odds in order to avoid the big price gap between say 4/1 and 5/1.
A bookmaker MAY want to lay said horse, and get it in his book, and therefore wants to go 4.1,or 4.2,rather than 9/2,and,at the same time ,be shorter on one of the unner runners. This wouldn't,contrary to racingsnake's opinion, alter the percentage in the book, just give a bit of variation. If bookmakers are unable to see this, then that is their problem. By the way, racingsnake's reference to the old days, and 4%-5% a runner,he couldn't have spent much time in the ring,as betting "overbroke" was a common occurence, often due to bookmakers betting to ther opinion! Decimal adds ARE needed,in order to bring bookmaking into the modern age, that we are living in. Every bookmaker ,or nearly all,are staring into their PC at decimal odds, because that is what the exchanges use,and what the modern punter understands. The nanny goat is also decimal. |

I trust that everyone gets paid out at 1/4 in the last at Yarmouth but I fear that they won't due to the RDT position

Not too important adge - there's hardly a soul there.

adge
they can do what they want its an arc course rules don't come in till jan 1st. in fairness to the Yarmouth books the vast majority do it right anyway. |

unbiased - are you a book or a punter?
if your a book just do it! chalk up ya 4.1s and 4.2s but don't be surprised if people haven't got a clue what your doing. if ya desperate to get it in the book just go the half point bigger. the fractional odds are traditional and work fine in my opinion. what next books pricing 4.15 etc etc. its a debate that can run and I cant be arsed to chat about the subject anymore but don't think its the solution - modernisation isn't always a good thing!!! however I am sensing that you are a punter and if so like I say ride the wave of oncourse value my friend |
By:
I,m a punter racing snake, and the sooner you lot join the 21st century the better.Do you really think all these fractional odds are punter friendly in this day and age? 19/4 17/4 15/4 14/5 13/5 etc
By:
punter friendly is important in my opinion and would never do half points above the 17/2 (that's 8.5-1 if you are stuggling)and certainly none of the examples you posted.
By:
I think we all agree on that one , mmm , the sooner they are banned the better.
as for the 4.1 , 4.2 , 4.3 etc ...these have been tried and the racecourse punters ignored them [ didn't have a clue what they mean't ] yes , those using betfair do , but they are a tiny minority of the punters in this country |

Lets just call it 9.5 rs.
and it was never a fair trial they gave it adge, putting 3.5 on the board for 7/2 was never going to work when 4.5 is much more appealing. |
