When I first arrived about 6 and a half years ago the most prominent forumites ( apart from Bush who was a temporary phenomonem ) were Warwick and then probably jonjo and infomaniac. They were all posting occasionally until recently when I believe Warwick finally got completely banned ( at one time he had about 10 usernames mostly variants ). They all rather ran out of steam 3 or 4 years ago though. I'm still not sure who ppking was so can't include him, though he was posting under the ppking name as well as others (allegedly). I suppose if a newbie could get on now he/she would say Delta,DICKIE and Skinto.

Shooting for the moon here, but is it remotely possible that anybody has a screenshot saved of the old forum ? ...and by "old" I mean the forum as it was back in 2002, with all the red ... (no blue back in them days).
The blue came in after the first forum format change IIRC (maybe 2003 or 2004), and caused outrage and mutiny in the ranks. I think Janov never posted to the forum again after the first format change, although ppking continued to entertain us all for a long time afterwards. ppking v Aceform ...legendary stuff.
If anybody does in fact have a screenshot saved of the forum as was back in 2002 I would love to see it, but I don't hold out any great hopes.

Sorry to hear about Gorgeous George. He and I disagreed about just about everything on Bloodstock and Breeding but he was courteous ( mostly ) and quite witty. Knew he had disappeared some time ago but I didn't realise why.

NGB and his many subsequent forum names are also a sad loss, together with ppk and his entire army of aliases. The latter was something of a character actor, with any number of well-drawn creations on his CV.

stephaniebot ...I had forgotten about him/her. He/she posted for ages and had everybody convinced he/she was a woman, until somebody unmasked him /her as a crossdresser called Steve.
Does DOOWADIDDY (sp?) still post on the forum ? I always had a sneaking suspicion that he might have been one of ppking's more outlandish creations ...

shrubbery had a famous fight with Ivor over the lack of success of Ivor's lays. I was in touch with him for a while and he was banned soon after for something else. He wrote a rather inspired letter to Bf effectively burning his bridges with them and went purple completely. Not sure about chit-chat but Ivor is a regular poster on politics where he is the token Welsh Tory.

Just dredged this thread up when doing a search for Miss Hennie Pedget! She was the definitely the best tipster I've seen in close on 16 years of being here. Did a whole year of posting in three different systems and made a big profit on all of them. Multiple place laying (usually two and sometimes as many as four per race!) was her most reliable method. She was also very good at win betting. Can't remeber what the third system was - may have been win laying. I have a summary of her stuff on a pen drive somewhere in the house.....really ought to find it!
Steven The Trainbarn (who went off to set up his own tipping line I believe?) was the other really good one I remember.

All results are quoted at sp. However, the profit and loss figures are worked out with a percentage amount added to the sp. These amounts are at the top of each months P&L thread and will change from month to month. Commission is deducted at 5% per market not selection.
"I would say about 85-90% of the selections that I have put up on this thread have carried my money.
If the selection was scratched from my own personal bets it would have been for a reason eg Non runners in the race or the selection had gone way outside what I perceived as value. I invariably got it wrong but it would be fair to say that the view taken when deciding upon the 10-15% or so that were scratched favoured my own betting account rather than the P&L figures on here.
This is the reason that I have always stressed (perhaps not so much on this year's thread, than last) that my selections were not tips but just a portfolio of my own initial viewpoint that other people might have been interested in.
I never put a reasoning up, on how I came about my selections so I understand and expect a limited amount of interest.

Final Thoughts
A little bit of a bumpy ride over the last 3 months but thankfully I managed to turn a profit in the final month. Backs managed 4 losing months from the last 6 but still had the overall best ROI out of the 3 disciplines. Food for thought ?? Both lay disciplines were pretty consistent throughout the year with the Place Lays just having 1 small losing month. I'm pretty pleased with that as I was operating at about 17-18% above sp (surely I can improve on that !!).
Anyway onwards and upwards. My last comment (that mistermind replied to) asking when can you tell if you've cracked it, was very much tongue in cheek. Punting for profit is very much a constant but ever changing battle and I won't be resting on my laurels. Part of the reason for retiring this thread from the forum is to concentrate on other methods of making profit. My own account in 2007 will be including Place Backs regularly and also a slightly different staking system. I realise that my methods of many selections would put other people off straight the way and as I have mentioned before I was brought/dragged up on the ideology that selectivity was the key to successful punting. That might well have been the case 20 years ago, especially if you were privileged to be a good form judge or privy to info. However, the exchanges have created a different animal and I am convinced that turnover/spreading the risk can be used to the average Joe Public's advantage. Discipline, time spent, discipline, hard-work, discipline, luck, discipline, a little bit of knowledge and especially discipline are all key elements to making it work though.
Finally, thankyou very much to all those that have contributed, offered encouraging words or just had a quick look at the thread. You've made it all worthwhile and enjoyable. Hennie Pedgets Betting Diary 2006: Final Summary
