just got this
Thank you for your email.

I have spoken to our department who deals with the Pool and Dividends and they have confirmed that the Placepot for Chester was £6,671.60.

I saw the breakdown and in leg 3 there was 120'000 on number 5 and 80'000 on number 1, I'm guessing there appears 1.5 million more than usual in the pool.
Somebody somewhere has lost a lot of money, I wonder if there's something mentioned in the racing post tomorrow, I doubt it.

Who would place such a bet?

Makes no sense at all.

It is like putting £10k in the win pool. You are just buying some of your own money back.

Will be watching the pools tomorrow.Wink

I agree, so will I! :)

if he puts 1.5 mill in the pool he loses either way because they'll take out about 400k  before they pay a dividend

This story will be big news in the next few days, will Baldy publicise the dividend and pool size

I agree Huggy, there aren't even a million in the Ascot and Cheltenham pools, something somewhere has gone awry.

SURELY - the RACING POST have to investigate this.

Quotes - from Fred - of ... "It is correct," - are insufficient.

I know that they are not obliged to name names - But some clues such as ... 'A far-eastern syndicate' - or 'large-staking Australian client' - MUST be forthcoming [b]in explanation.

They must know who .... After all - Nobody has walked in a Shop and plonked £1 and a half MILLION - in 'Readies' on the counter.

someone got a lot of credit with fred
By:

When: 29 Sep 13 12:24
there has to be an explanation onlooker because anyone staking 1.5m on a placepot surely has the brains to realise they will lose even if they had a 1.5m straight line Crazy
because the 28% baldy takes out will make sure of it.

I'm betting this will turn out to be an error in transmission by one of the agents (like Betfair) that take bets on behalf of the Tote for a commission, and that the one and a half million only exists in hyperspace.

So it's either a software bug that has multiplied the real stake when sending the bet, or they've been hacked by someone that doesn't like Baldy.

Of course that would mean a rather large list of suspects .....

TA

You are probably right in what has happened. Either that or it is an on course operator error (obviously not at Chester!). For example someone could have filled out a multiple entry (say 10,000 lines) and asked for a total stake of £150. The operator has keyed it as a unit stake of £150 and issued a ticket worth £1.5 million!!!!

You would expect there to be checks in place in either instance, but once the "rouge" money is in the pot and the first race is off, there is probably nothing they can do to the rolling figures throughout the afternoon.

you would have thought that even a YTS would notice a pool that size cant be right and why declare a dividend. it would seem when asked they keep saying the calculations are correct and that everything is okay

It would be nice if someone came on saying they had collected.

Took the day off yesterday to go to the golf and missed this wtf?
Who and why does anyone put 1.4 million on a placepot.
I hope you get paid but I cant help but think something stinks and fred will come up with some excuse.
Needs to be transparency on this.
By:
minardi
When: 29 Sep 13 15:05
Was Fred playing a game in the same way he could be manipulating the win pools in running - so lets just says he has visibility of all placepot permutation he then covers the permutations that will pay much much more than the true odds - i.e those permutations that have been "missed"

It doesnt matter that he may need £1m to cover this as he gets the takeout back anyway.

There is no transparency whatsover as to where the money comes from - and in the case of win betting crucially when the money goes down. Obviously the placepot pool is declared up front but it would be interesting to note when the pool jumped to £1.5m

Just looked at the results, I generally only do one placepot a day, and went for Newmarket.

I don't study form, and I put it on as near as I can to the first race, after the morning markets have settled.

For the first 4 races:
I have the 1st, 3rd and 4th best on the BF screen in races of more than 7 runners
I have the 1st, 2nd and 3rd best on the BF screen in races of 7 runners or less.
And the favourite on the BF screen on its own in races 5 and 6.

81 line perm, and it would have given 4 winning lines.

Sums up my luck that does. Sad

They cant mate payout declared tote confirmed it people need to know pools are correct so even if a mistake they have to honour it otherwise bet is dead .pr disaster if they didnt pay out plus legally if they didnt pay theres an argument to answer so
