It's all short term Fact------ they think we have a crowd in front today lets do what we like........... what's the audience on CH4 at home......... how many think I ll remember that next time I go racing............   they should be doing the exact opposite and trying to build a sustainable business model. that will survive the test of time............ And this will only start at the top..........

The Association is bound by its constitution to hold an AGM but it becomes meaningless if the agenda is devoid of items that are meaningful and crying out for debate. A NBPA director described a fellow director as 'The landlord' and when I asked him why he said because of his policy of widespread renting of his pitches. It made me think what hope is there for a better future !

I agree RR , in fact i'm surprised that there were as many as eight. what I don't understand is why the back line / poor pitch bookmakers don't go 1/4 odds.
maybe the reason is because the public don't care about terms . all they want is 13/1 a 12/1 chance and 17/1 a 16/1 chance or 17/4 a 4/1 chance.

Adge - I'm glad..... was it brought up at the meeting, is the association's slogan no protectionist of the profession, perhaps it should remind it's members/directors and if the directors are not of the same ethos then they have no place on the board

My Book is going to print next week - How to Self Destruct the industry in which you work in a maximum of two years

1.  Do everything you can to get yourself as much publicity as possible in terms or ripping off your customers
2.  Negotiate a  Record Expenses deal in a time of recession and decreasing turnover

possibly the fact that not a single person put themselves forward for election to the board answers
either the 215 members [ 56 in attendance ] are very pleased with what their board are doing or were only there for the free bar

I didn't go to the meeting as something unexpectedly cropped up,first one I can remember missing for years, however I would not expect adge to discuss matters on here and am frankly surprised that some do ffs.

12 months ago I could have forgiven them the secret squirrel excuse (just about)...... now since signing the best deal for the racecourses known to man...... they have let any tom dick or harry be an unlicensed layer at Ascot (Free WIFI to all)....

Baldfred sticks joints up on a racecourse where ever he wants - Must be colossal round the back of the stands at Ascot, he has that on his own virtually with a few exceptions (I'd glady pay 6x fee for that if the negotiators wanted to put it forward as a suggestion Laugh)

Today we see that Wetherby cos they feel like it put two extra premium (Festival) days in to in their eyes increase revenue cos the badge multiplier automatically increases on these days................ therefore the secret squirell argument doesn't work anymore cos the racecourses running rings round everybody regardless

I see the NBPA have agreed to the AGT Fee.

How can it cost more for an AGT identity badge then a UK passport?

we went through this in great detail , davy. the contracts that we have signed state that AGT can charge us a reasonable fee.
so the next question is what is a reasonable fee. as we paid £100 in 2007 that was a reasonable fee then so no argument can be accepted that £120 is not reasonable now.
at least we tried to do something.

I see Steve Clare suggests the best way forward is to provide a united front to the AGT & FRB.
What's peoples view on the FRB paying Gerry Sutcliffe £700 a month as an advisor!
Yes this is the same guy who was in government as sports minister when the gambling act was introduced that brought on all the problems and refused to amend it.

Ribero1-If what you say is correct,it totally beggars belief. This'dolt'at the inception of the G/A had absolutely no clue about Racecourse Bookmaking. Now you guys are helping towards providing him a living??!! Should and would have been tarred and feathered 30 years ago.

Adge - I think it's great that it was discussed rather than just ignored. The fact that £100 was accepted in 2007 doesnt make it reasonable -  it just means nobody challenged it then. How can an ID card from AGT be more expensive than a 10 year UK passport?

Surely AGT is not sustainable given falling bookmaker revenues, attendances etc . This fee is just papering over the cracks.

agree with you davy , but WE [ means the NBPA diectors fact ] studied the contracts and the special conditions E relating to this payment and could only advise that the reasonable fee is not able to be challenged. the next step is to not have this as an annual fee.
as far as the other item..photo copies of this newspaper article were circulated before the AGM.
sorry but I can't say more on this on this forum

sorry that i'm popping in and out..i'm in Yarmouth at present

The payment of £700/month to Gerry Sutcliff is a disgrace for which we have to thank the FRB.He knew that there was a mistake in the drafting of the Gambling Bill and proof was provided. He shafted the bookmakers and has as a consequence has been rewarded. Our reps should be advised to cease this contract and perhaps the lobbyists at the same time.

Why is there no consultation of 'members' to obtain what should be mandatory authorisation before any significant sums are spent on causes for which there is minimal support ?
By:

When: 21 Sep 13 12:19
DEMO - COME ON DEMO....YOU'RE SMARTER THAN THAT..... THERE IS NO CONSULTATION BECAUSE THE LAST THING CERTAIN INDIVIDUALS WANT IS TO HAVE TO SEEK A MANDATE FROM THEIR FELLOW OPERATORS TO ENACT THE CHANGES/PRACTISES THAT SUIT THEM.
