i cant answer that.they will say it prob stops people continually opening new acs to avail of free bets.best have nothing to do with them.they are the worst of the lot and thats something to say looking at the opposition!.what really gets to me is to see yer man leon on tv talking about heavy hitters going in having thousands etc.the heavy hitters keep well away from them let me assure you.

My guess it depends where they licensed and what data protection there is in the country your details are held.

would it not be the country the customer resides in ?

Retaining personal data (Principle 5)

This section answers some common questions about how long personal data should be kept. It sets out briefly the duties of organisations in this regard, and gives examples of good practice in managing the retention of personal data.
In brief – what does the Data Protection Act say about keeping personal data?

The Act does not set out any specific minimum or maximum periods for retaining personal data. Instead, it says that:

Personal data processed for any purpose or purposes shall not be kept for longer than is necessary for that purpose or those purposes.

This is the fifth data protection principle. In practice, it means that you will need to:

    review the length of time you keep personal data;
    consider the purpose or purposes you hold the information for in deciding whether (and for how long) to retain it;
securely delete information that is no longer needed for this purpose or these purposes; and
update, archive or securely delete information if it goes out of date.

Interesting. Ladbrokes closed me the day that the Dermot Weld stayer won at York 2 years ago, but sent me a customer satisfaction survey yesterday.

would be nice to get a truthful answer from someone who uses bookies in preference to Betfair (but is a forumite nevertheless)

I'm genuinely interested in why they would

or alternatively put some past bets up with bookies and then we can compare prices with Betfair SP

Swift ,,a very good point  Betfair do not and never will close accounts  Why   they have nowt to lose
every bet back / or lay ..they are guaranteed  5%
Thats why they have the game by the curlies
long live Betfair

When: 06 Aug 13 12:58
lots of reasons.why is double res a grey area.?also ew here is a non starter..back a 5/1 second fav in a shop to a 1/2 fav in an 8 runner maiden it places your neutral.wins your in clover.also shops will take big cash bets usually.pp will. though pp online a joke.

Swift Tuttle, if you want to bet at early prices, instead of where the market is mature close to the off, the value is virtually never on here, it's always with the bookmakers...
By:
swift-tuttle
When: 06 Aug 13 13:10
yes so I've heard millhouse
but has someone done a detailed study on this?

I've never seen any evidence

I would like to see a research thing done on Pricewise for example using his advised prices AND using the Keep option on here

how many times would the price have been obtained on here - stuff like that

Kavvie  back in the 80is  pal of mine ran a shop for a big chain  no names no pack drill
rules were  any bet over £100 from a stranger had to have head office approval .. one day he  lets say forgot  to phone the bet through .. next day he was on the dole .sad but true

im not defending shops now.im just saying if i went into a pp shop in 10 min and wanted 500ew on a 4or 5/1 shot they would take it.not sure bout lads but thems the facts.if you know theres gonna be a gamble on something  bf no good for liquidity and their sports book wouldnt take a fiver(bigger joke than spoils and corrals put together)so you gotta get the price before it goes.you also have the guarantee and double res and stewards..makes sense to me.bf good for punting near off .

surprised you're not restricted kavvie if you consistently beat the price

not sure if it was pricewise himself, who said in r post last week he was kicking himself when he backed a horse on here at like 2.85 when 7/4 was available with bookies, the horse won at 7/2.

betfair great if you fancy an outsider, 33/1 in shops might get 500 on here.
By:

do you have to steer clear of some shops that you've used before?

Swift, here in Ireland there's no problem getting on (FOBT's non existant), if I have a run of wins from the same shop, I will use a different shop for a bit before maybe returning to the original shop, 2 reasons really, staff don't get a full picture of my betting and if or when I do return, they are glad to see you back as they tend to not realise that you've been elsewhere and think to themselves "was only a matter of time before he returns to give us back our losses" and are even more eager to take your bet.

Anyway, like I said it's not really a problem getting on anyway, Boyles are a bit ropey, to say the least, but in my local shop they're not too bad when you are known, anyway there's enough within walking distance to get on without any hassle to €100 units if you really want to bet in Boyles shops to early prices, online they are a bunch of counts, will take the bet online at SP if you are willing to let them have the arb.

Shop advantages outweigh backing on here by a country mile as outlined above by Kavvie, though I backed this years Grand National winner with Ladbrokes @ 80/1 to €50 e/w in the morning, don't know what price it was on here, probably massive, but those type of winners are few and far between, I always protect my stake and for a decent bet, shops e/w with guaranteed prices, is a no brainer.

I have worked at private bookies mainly but had stints at billys and okcorales, all punters betting over £50 singles are monitored when they start to lose the company money they are limited to SP only or refused point blank.
Remember when i worked in manchester city central one punter put £60 on every single bookies in the town centre (circa 23 of em) on some balinrobe 20-1 shot and it hosed in.
Next day his picture was up behind the counter.

Gandalf the winner was returned at 165/1 on here and if those are the bets you are having in shops you are either
a) Lying your ass off
b) A mug who has or is in the process of doing his chips

If those are your types of bets you can belt away online as no one will close your account I assure you
