How can it be the camera angle, he jumped the last hurdle 5 seconds or more before the other horse?

The jockey didn't take it easy really, he was still pushing it out but just didn't whip it until late but then why would you whip a horse with the race sewn up and a 10L lead after jumping the last?

He went for the whip once the winner was coming to him but the horse clearly has a mind of its own and the winner by then had the momentum, yet far more grief will be given to Nico de Boinville rather than the credit to Jason Maguire for persevering and not giving up......We live in a blame culture society today though so that will always be the case.

I am afraid so Tips. Doesnt help my balance one bit but I am afraid to say the horse had had enough and either downed tools or had run its race. The winner found a second wind and really quickened well after the last.

tips - don't give in that easily  Take nothing away from the winner and a brilliant ride from Maguire but that final 2 furlongs from de bogface was disgraceful. Didn't look round once and was just cruising until Maguire came upsides when he gets the whip out. Horse responded immediately. What could it do in 10 yards though?
By:
paganin
When: 30 Jul 13 18:26
I must have missed the horse responding immediately Bilbo- I honestly believe it just got very tired and the winner quickened again well. I don't like the jockey either but do think this time he didn't lead to the horse being caught- just think it got tired and outstayed.
By:

exactly Bilbo makes you wonder what race half these jokers were watching does anybody think Maguire,McCoy,Johnson,Moore,O'Brien or any average jock would not have got that horse home?

De Boinville never looked rattled till Maguire came up alongside ffs.

ima you will be the first to admit that you are the chief apologist for let's say poor jockey rides, in jockeys you see no evil, hear no evil and speak no evil.

I've not seen the race again but i don't think he had a 10 length lead over the last could be wrong yes he was still pushing after the last but at no time did he look behind to see if he needed the stick only when maguire came upsides him did he go for the stick.
It was a weak as pi$$ ride and knocks my confidence in the jockey.

If you think it was an acceptable ride it alters my opinion of you.

LOL....I wouldn't be the first to admit to that at all and I've criticised plenty of jockeys on here but obviously felt it was justified there, it's just that I don't have the default setting that the jockey must be at it or is incompetent every time they are beaten and there is often a reason why they are, with the horse being the biggest factor in that.

If he didn't have a 10L lead he had a commanding lead all the same and one that didn't really need him flogging the horse to death and I doubt it was due to not looking around that he was beaten and didn't go for the whip, as the crowd made enough noise to let him know what was going on and no doubt had he looked around anyway and got beaten then he would have been slaughtered on here for that, so damned if he does and damned if he doesn't.

Both horse and jockey had done the hard work earlier just to see off the other horse and I don't know for what reason the horse started treading water but it did, although the jump at the last looked a bit strange but you would normally expect it to have won with that kind of the lead and without the jockey having to resort to the whip and so I don't really blame him for not going for it earlier than he did and still think far more credit should go to the other jockey for not giving up.

I personally don't think the jockey on the 2nd did that much wrong and the horse just died on its feet after jumping the last but obviously some don't want to put it down to a half ton dumb animal so step forward the human on its back to carry the can instead.
