Britain’s leading female Flat Jockey Hayley Turner is to split from her long-term boss Michael Bell.
The Newmarket trainer has confirmed that that while he will continue to use Turner, the official link will end after 13 years.
Derby-winner Bell has guided the career of Turner from apprentice to the outstanding female rider on the circuit.,
She became the first girl to ride a Group One winner outright when partnering Dream Ahead, who was trained by David Simcock, to land the 2011 July Cup.
Just over a month later, Turner landed her second on board Bell’s Margot Did in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York.
Bell said: ‘Hayley is a great girl and I will continue to use her but she has been with me for 13 years and sometimes you just need to freshen things ups.
‘There has been no fall-out. It hopefully will also do Hayley good – she possibly needs a new challenge. It will give her a chance to build new contacts.’
Bell said that he felt the need to shuffle his jockey options with Jamie Spencer no longer as available due to his new contract to ride for Qatari Sheik Fahad Al Thani.
Turner has ridden 43 winners from 307 rides this season. Bell has supplied the majority of her rides with 72 producing nine winners.
Turner has one ride at Royal Ascot on Wednesday afternoon – Flawlesss Beauty trained by Hugo Palmer in the Sandringham Stakes.
She then has three rides at Kempton where Gender Agenda, Bell’s only runner, is ridden by Tom Qeally.
Turner’s one ride on Ladies’ Day at Royal Ascot on Thursday is You Da One in the Britannia Stakes, trained by Andrew Balding.
Looks like my post in the Bell thread last night flushed this out.
Clear something was up there though she's far better off getting away from a stable that's been in decline for some time now.

Don't see any of the other jockeys he uses firing in winners left, right and centre including Spencer who more often than not gets the better horses to ride there.
Would have been interesting to see what would have happened had she kept some of the rides in big races on horses she'd built up a rapport with instead of Spencer getting on them.

I would still rate Hayley among the top 20 riders on the flat in GB. She may get beaten in tight finishes against a very strong rival but her pace judgement and timing of a finishing run is right up with the best.

34-235 on non Bell rides since the start of the year compared to 9-72 for Bell.
Since the start of the turf season it's 22-150 on non Bell mounts and 5-60 for him.

As Marcce pointed out on HIS thread, yesterday evening ...
"The Bell horses do not seem right."
That gamble on PENANG POWER was abysmal -
It was 5/4 to handle the hill at Roller-Coaster Brighton - let alone win. --------------------
'The disappointment was Penang Power, who attracted plenty of support but who dropped out tamely after refusing to settle on this handicap debut returned to this longer trip'

Only thing she is losing is the number of rides, which she can easily replace imo. Gives her more flexibility to ride for Fanshawe, Tregoning and Balding.
I think this is a big plus for her. She was getting jocked off the big rides for bell anyway, so nothing lost.

she rode my hold up horse at newbury and took up the running 10 furlongs out on him.
when the trainer first called to say he could get her to ride at newbury, I told him I didn't rate her and could he get somebody else, but he called me back later and said there was nobody else available so he had booked hayley. (I checked the BHA admin site and found that he had booked her right away after we hung up, without checking out the other jockeys, so it looks like there are plenty of trainers who will book her just to have the famous hayley turner riding for them.)
when she came back in I asked her why she took up the running so far out and her reply was that the horse was going so well so she thought she would just let him stride on.
too stupid to realise that maybe the hold up horse was going so well because he was being held up.
