Mellish would be a great addition, I think the general public would take to him as well as he carries the authority of someone who knows what they are talking about. I don't mind Graham Cunningham either, the problem they have is that for much of the time, he and mcGrath are fulfilling the same role. They also need to get rid of that bloody screen as racing as a sport is too fast paced and doesn't lend itself to that kind of analysis. the guy doing it has to be an extremely fluid talker and I don't think any of the present bunch have the knack to carry it off.

your objective is to find winners...........but before u back them u should consider if the price is reasonable.........thats really what im saying......trying to find the best horse in the race is more important than any supposed value

agree there........but price is everything..........i wouldnt back a horse which i thought was a20\1 shot because its 33\1....i almost only do non hcaps and try to narrow a field down to  3 or 4 horses then look at the prices

Paul Nicholl's was on the show that morning, he looked in disbelief after GC's comment. When you tip one or two horses all the presenters are going to have losing runs, but, some of GC's tips have been puzzling to say the least. There's only Jim Mcgrath worth listening too on the show from a tipping point of view.

I wonder if Tom Lee's presence spells the end for Tarnya, impressed with his linguistic skills on Saturday.

To be fair to Mick Fitz i think his selections are showing a profit or at least they were.

its a shame C4 didnt take on mellish his outdated kitchen table form study would have been just perfect for the saturday crowd and I wouldnt have to put up with him and his sidekick on ruk bowling him full tosses

GC is the reason I have stopped watching the Morning Line. The man has a most irritating manner and really is quite amazing when you consider the amount of rubbish he talks.

I miss Francombe and the Cat. Even Tommo was more sufferable than GC - but only just.

The problem with anyone presenting/tipping is that Horse racing is such a subjective sport in terms of someone giving a view on tipping, advising on horses to back/lay or even providing an analysis on a race. So for people who follow the sport closely such as myself and most on here, other forums and in every walk of life is that in order to gain your respect they need to think at least a bit outside the box rather than just tipping up a favourite or second fav (often sub 5/1 when it's mostly say 6/4-9/4 the field) - when you think to yourself what is the point in them being on there. Even if the fav wins at 6/4, unless they are exceptionally strong on it justifying their vindication as opposed to the usual 'i know its boring but i'm going to side with the favourite' classic, then any gopher looking through the horse racing section in the daily star could do the same.

John Francombe used to always get cained by some people on here for saying, 'this isn't a 25/1 shot...'etc but I remember he tipped up quite a few big priced winners. He tipped up Milk It Mick in a big way to win the Dewhurst several years ago and was 33/1 so to the occasional punter who isn't that clued up to racing who tuned in and had say £5 each way on Francombe's say so then they would have won around £200 depending on the place terms as opposed to someone losing a tenner on a 6/4 chance (to win £15 as well) that finished second tipped up by one of the gurus currently on the show. Obviously he's not going to tip up big priced winners every week but when i used to occasionally watch it I remember Francombe and Tanya occasionally tipping up big priced winners.

I just have a bit more respect for someone who provides some insight whether it's from what they can see live on track in the paddock based on their experience in the sport or another angle which i wasn't already aware of in my sleep - I think most people are of the same view.

Tom is the anti-Tanya in that while she can barely string a three words together without a break, Tom tends to the other extreme and often speaks far too quickly.

Presenters need to speak clearly and fluently, and both Tom and Tanya fall at that first hurdle, even before we consider what they are saying.

Back in the 90's Jeff Stelling hosted The Winning Post 3 or 4 night a week and for each show you had a different guest from various backgrounds, for me there was nothing wrong with that format. Each guest brought something new and the viewer never got bored with the repetition, guests were more likely to put some effort in for the one off appearance and the nauseating presenter/pundit cliques were less likely to form.

There is one post which is full of beautiful irony on this thread, I'll leave it to you all to figure which one it is.
