Up north we are still trying to keep him under the radar if you please

No, I think he'd have made more of an impact by now if he were going to do it, although this is a very poor period for jockeys. the fact Gosden gave the job to Buick so soon a few years ago says a lot. he looked around and there was nothing there. Moore, Buick, Hughes and on his day Spencer are the best jockeys riding in the UK by quite a way these times. Fallon has physical problems and doesn't have the ammo any more while Frankie shot himself in the foot and while that caused him to get his hunger back, it means he too will be short of ammo. The general standard of jock riding in Ireland and France is much higher. Some of the guys riding in the north especially at the moment.... well they should just thank their lucky stars that the population has gotten bigger size wise as I'm not sure they would be making a living today otherwise. Btw, I'm not a jockey basher as I understand that there is nothing worse than asking a guy to do something you know he can't. Just have to wipe your nose and move on.

It's still more about the horses and the quality of rides and that obviously goes up if you can secure a top stable jockey job.

Tudhope probably isn't doing anything different today to what he was 4 or 5 years ago but he's just getting on better ones now and so his name gets in the frame more often for the spare rides too. Not so long ago he rode a few for Henry Cecil when he was out of fashion as a trainer when one year he only trained 26 winners but he then had a revival with horses like Passage of Time, Light Shift, Twice Over, Midday and of course Frankel and as with Queally, all of that just confirms it's more about the horses.

De Sousa has ridden quite a few winners for O'Meara too but obviously with taking up his retainer it has made more O'Meara rides available for Tudhope and he has shown he is more than capable and with a bit of lucky and different timing might even have ended up as Frankel's rider.

Think it was K Fallon who said in the paper that he noticed the horses he is riding are settling better now than a few years ago and that he is riding with more confidence generally.

Connor Beasley will be champion apprentice either this season or next.

With a stable who are improving as a yard, personally much prefer Allen or Gibbons in the north.

Unfortunately, there is no place in racing for anyone to become a big name now, unless they fall foul of the regulations and get caught of course.
The sport is unappealing to the vast majority who can now pick from any number of areas to place a bet, the "glory days" for racing are long gone, those of us fortunate enough to have seen the legends who participated from the 50's through to the middle 90's, are the last generation of punters to have had the fortune to watch true artists of the saddle at work.
It says everything that even what have previously been great festivals ie Royal Ascot/Goodwood/York fail to get pulses racing like they use to, still eagerly awaited but only that, the buzz has most definitely been reduced to a slight hum...!
