Here here millhouse, Powell was a perfect example of how to interview post race.
How far wrong have we gone in racing, everything blinged up these daysSad

Powell was a journalist, Motley, and so immediately knew what questions to ask.

What are Persad's professional credentials/experience for actually having this vitally important role, imo...?

so true motley - long for the days of J.Powell, Julian Wilson, Peter O'Sullevan, Jimmy Lindley… quality coverage back then. Not this dumbed down sh*t they flog to the masses based around musical montages, OTT hype they ram down viewers' throats, building up emotion in the audience to the max through musical montages etc.

To be fair, Persad is a farily good "chairman"-type presenter, drawing information from the expert pundits. I think he is better than Clare or Nick Luck in that role. He is just appalling at interviewing the public. Whether the question to Bolger was as bad as some make out, or was the right question badly-phrased ("back to a mile, then, for the SJP or Sussex Stakes?" -- which says Bolger was right all along rather than the mile-and-a-half question as asked which implied Bolger had been a bit of a mug).

Jim Bolger really showed his class when asked that question. He really must have been at a low ebb given what had happened and must have felt like telling him to do one but no simply replied "no its very unlikely". A top man.

Nothing wrong with Lindley - the bloke was class compared to the clowns we have to endure these days like Persad.

Bolger's not that classy - he put punters away regarding Teofilo's participation in the Guineas, & then said New Approach would not be running in the Derby only to re-instate him at the last minute, helping his mates get on at 209-1 on here.

DA was never a Derby horse in JB`s mind before the 2000, we always knock these connections for not risking defeat with these top class animals. Hats off to  him and owners.

Rose-tinted?

Jimmy Lindley thought every single runner looked marvelous. Eve Pollard was far worse than Sherwood on the fashion -- she just told you what you could already see -- that's a red dress; that's a blue dress; thanks, Eve. Julian Wilson shared only a fraction of what he knew with the viewer, and was hardly a natural in front of the camera.

ram, we saw horses in the parade ring, going down, at the start, no silly camera angles, no silly puns, hardly ever stupid questions, plenty of betting shows, full caption of result with sp, no silly gimmicks, no adverts,    rose tinted , don't think so

Excellent post elise, those were the days, you would put up with lindley, but he was still
streets ahead of diatribe we have to endure today. Maybe it's just the way the new generation see itSad

@elisjohn -- agreed that in the old days they did not share the current paranoia about actually showing the horses. That probably owes more to the producers than the presenters though.

You also had to factor in, that we were starved of racing coverage back then, so
when the beeb was on, the shoulder races came and gone in a flash. But in was done with
a touch of class in those days, a touch of reserve, and understatement. Now it's saturation
coverage, with hoards of decidedly moderate, inexperienced and dull human beings, such as the subject
in question.

Rishi's not that great and has asked some daft questions before (including asking Carl Llewellyn could his horse have got back into a race after he had fallen and the leaders kicked on) but apart from none of us knowing if he's prompted through his earpiece to ask specific questions, not everything asked is expressing a personal view and also they know the answers to some questions already and are just feeding the interviewee the chance to confirm it and have it on record.

For what it's worth I doubt connections of Dawn Approach will ever try 12f again unless he has an entry for and wins the Eclipse and they fancy another go but it's too inconclusive to say he didn't stay 12f on today's type of run, as no horse would have done see even if already a 12f winner had it pulled for as hard and as long as Dawn Approach did today.

Even non-stayers don't finish tailed off stone last unless the jockey stops the horse to a walk when its chance has gone.

I have stopped watching channel 4.

Persad and Plunkett -gormless
Balding and Luck-  up their own backsides
Spencer and Tanya - Plain useless
Fitzgerald - all of the above
Cunningham - seems to be of the opinion he can use loads of words and waffle with the odd "witty" comment

Only Jimbo, Hoiles and Holt any good with decent insight.

Christ, a jockey gets banned for 10 years and they barely mention it. Seem to think everything is rosy in racings garden
