To my amazement after just a couple of good wins I've had bet365 and ladbrokes putting restrictions on my account. In Bet365's case its such an over the top reaction as on ch4 races they have restricted me to 50p bets. Unbelievable! Ladbrokes are allowing more reasonable stakes but have removed all bonuses.  I'd been interested to hear from anyone whose experienced similar issues and what measures they take to get around these issues e.g. if you close an account do they let you reopen and start again with a new slate?

LOL nice one Regit. I've rung them up and u only get to speak to their nice customer service fronting  people not the Traders that make the decision's. 365 passed my complaint on then decided to make no changes whilst  ladbrokes passed complaint in into a "black hole", but gr8 to hear your getting your bets on.

Kev.Are you new to betting ? ALL bookmakers operate a "mugs only" policy. Are you saying that 365 changed their mind about restrictions ? If so, that's an amazing achievement.

No artie bet365 (Or bet£3.65 as jollie calls themGrin) they didn't change their mind ! No I'm not new to betting just more focused now so my winning profile more in the spotlight I guess. Must have not gone down well that I successfully turned over my bonus when I joined. Call me naive but although I was aware they restricted accounts I though it was for really BIG players. I think ATR and Racing Post should "name and shame" those bookies who take it too far.

I don't understand the mentality of traders. With the amount of competition out there (especially Betfair) you'd think the bookies would be fighting for your business. If they balance their books correctly it shouldn't make a difference who wins and loses.

and if you read the RP you'd be very confused pullein telling us bookmakers get the odds right 999/1000 so why would they restrict anyone kev ?

Bet365 adverts "keep backing those winners...and we'll keep giving you free bets"

I've no idea how they are allowed to get away with that statement.

"Nice" article in todays Bookmakers trade paper on page 13 about a punter suing a Paddy Power offshoot in Australia for money he would have won if he was not restricted...

Class Action anyone...

The publicity alone would knock 25% off "Bookmakers" share prices if it was done over here..

Paddy Pooper restricted me to 9euro each way on a 7/1 shot the night before the race...
So I went to 5 of their shops and had e200 each way.
Do they actually think their ridiculous limits work???LaughLaughLaugh

Thanks Millhouse for that positive contribution to the thread. I agree its important that punters aren't passive and let the bookies have it all their own way. Also excellent point made by horsewithnoname below about the slogans they use but don't back up.

all you wingers on here, seem to forget if you can't get it on here- where you are constrained by appalling liquidity levels, its only then that you turn to bookmakers. and then very often for when we are out of line with the exchange. ie 9/2 when it's 4 on here and you expect to get a nice free arb off our backs.

i do agree Hills and such have become rather pathetic about many bets they should not restrict, of course i agree there. But moist of the whining on here isn't from the genuine client- it's the traders bleating they can't make profits off the bookies back

i don't see one complaint on this thread about why you can't get what you want on Betfair. oh no

might i suggest an afternoon at the cinema?

well, Duncan, let me ask you a question - do you complain on here about 'getting on' with firms?

i may have done...i've been closed by several and restricted by others...not sure what your point is...i was asking how you know the people that are moaning are traders and not punters...i've been on here years and i wouldnt have a clue who the traders are...it's just convenient for you bookies to believe we're all traders and arbers rather than punters that are capable of taking money off you

11kv, the prices aren't available on here early on, and near the off when the liquidity is there, all the value has gone and you are betting into a near perfect market.

The parasite traders don't help, as even if you try to put in a bet on here at the same price as the bookmakers, they just see your bet, jump in front, creating an arb, and this shortens the bookmaker price, and in turn shortens the price on here. This often creates an industry price collapse (many 'gambles' are caused solely by someone wanting to have a decent bet on Betfair, imo)

So, apart from the big meetings, it's the bookmakers or nothing...

jezuz wept the bookies paranoia with arbing is just ludicrous. "a nice free arb?????"
besides you wouldn't lay enough at the price to make it worth while.

I bet approx. 30K with 365 over a 3 month period and they never restricted my bets. During the same period I returned 31K, so I`m 1K in front. I suppose my figures are good for overall turnover and it has only cost them 1K. Started with a deposit of £50. They only restrict bets if you only bet with them when they are best price and withdraw winnings and run.

Millhouse - "and near the off when the liquidity is there all the value has gone and you are betting into a near perfect market." NONSENSE.Absolute nonsense.Plenty of value to be had before the off.Someone needs to teach you how to bet.
