There is no denying the Hunter Chase form of SACRED MOUNTAIN around its favourite track, which is the best form on offer here, but the ground today will be too quick for it imo, all its form has been with plenty of cut....but it does stay, has to give weight all round here.....
BUCKSTRUTHER on the other hand will relish the ground,......its a good jumper & stays...... its P2P form is solid .
The form says its won its last 5 P2Ps… but it finished 2nd three runs back , beaten 1L by AMICELLI after a head to head battle on the final circuit… but AMICELLI weighed in 5LB light….( Everything was still intact when the horse finished) & was disqualified….. SEE YOU THERE promoted to 2nd.... its P2P form is solid !!
It ran in a Hunter at Musselburgh 2 runs back, a race which it won, looking to have too much to do against "The Wifes Pet" who was nearly a fence clear at one point, but stayed on dourly ........the trip was too short (20f) & the ground was soft ( given as good on the morning) ...nothing suited BUCKSTRUTHER that day but still managed to win. Last time, it won a P2P over 3m beating Tommysteel ( won this Kelso race last year) & Moon Over Miami .....the time was quick & has ran mostly good times in all its Points.....has also won at Kelso & looks to have everything going for it here....
Jamie Hamilton who is only 18 takes the ride, he has rode it in its last 6 wins.
SENOR ALCO Victor Thompson runs 4 in this, (won it with Tommysteel last year) & SENOR ALCO looks to be the best of his. It has finished 2nd the last 5 times.....being beaten by OSCARINA twice, which at a glance looks good form, but SA is one paced & gets out paced......although the form figures read 5 2nds, it has been well beat & needs to improve to win this even though it gets the weight.
If it stays dry then BUCKSTRUTHER will be very hard to beat......has no negatives in this imo.
No such thing as a value bet if it get`s well stuffed.
I`m not knocking you, merely stating facts. 3 shorties put up in Hunters the past week and all have been well beat and never ever looked like winning.
No one forces us to follow you and I`ve no complaints. Nobody twisted my arm. I know a guy who knows everything about horses but is a lousy tipster and can`t pick a winner.
Good luck but I`ll not be betting them again.

No problem with that...just put up my views...but when they get beat they come out of the woodwork...
Differnt story last season when it went to around 13 winners in a row, similar the season before.......but then again, still get the knockers when they win....which begs the question, why do i bother.

Punters are a fickle lot. I tipped 6 winners out of 7 one week in pub and got slagged off by a guy who bet the loser and none of the others. He doesn`t care about the 6 winners I gave, only the one he lost his cash on. That's the way it is. One is only as good as one`s last selection.
Like I say, I enjoy your postings and I`ve no complaints about betting them. I don`t think you could hack it as a tipster in a National though, you`re not thick skinned enough, which you have to be, take my word on that
Good luck.

wee eck is spot on though. One needs to bet 6 out of 10 at them prices just to break even. I would assume, one of Guest`s winning out of 10 would put one in profit.

I am sorry but you are wrong there....£7000 profit to £100 level stake on hunters last year (6 months)...not all short priced favs though...
btw....have made a profit every year on hunters...
jimeen 29 Apr 13 17:52 The reason you bother is because when it goes right, you love the plaudits. When it doesnt and the non believers are out in force, you dont like it.
Again you are wrong...only trying to help out with a niche not many know much about......but can easily remedy that if thats what you think... I will not post anything else on Hunters...

wee eck 29 Apr 13 18:08 koi, accept criticism with the same grace as you accept plaudits, you will be happier. Good luck.
dont mind the criticism for people that actually contribute something to the forum ..instead of those, yourself included that just like to have a go.
Not many on here actually put up reasoned posts on horse racing...but are quick enough to criticise.
If you read the write up....the form is there to see...wether they run to that form is another matter, Buckstruther stood out like a sore thumb when SM was a NR...

do you consider yourself a decent judge of hunter chasers? I myself am not, freely admit it.

Don`t make the mistake koi that we are all idiots because we don`t post our views. Why would we want to do that? Nothing to win by that at the risk of getting egg on one`s face. You obviously do it because you enjoy the plaudits when you pick a winner. If you are 7K up the past 6 months why worry about a little deserved criticism?

I'm certainly no expert in any type of racing least of all Hunter Chases and PTP's. Therefore, I welcome your previews koi and very much hope that you keep posting them. Of course you're not right all of the time but I've never met anybody who is. Your overall record in these races speaks for itself. I'm sorry to hear about your health problems wee eck and wish you all the best for the future.

All I said was that I enjoy your posts but will not be following you again. Not exactly criticism, mere facts. If your selections had won, I would have been the first to post congratulating you. I can`t exactly say you`re brilliant having lost 3 x 200 bets on shorties that got well stuffed. I don`t doubt that you are in profit, not for one minute, but I would need to be an arab sheikh to be able to continue following you. You must keep records, so what`s the stats for your last 6 runners?
I don`t post my views because it tempts fate and I don`t need plaudits, simple as that.
I got paid for my opinion for over 20 years so it can`t be that bad.

The man puts his opinion up, doesn't lie, aftertime or mislead, states clearly if he's having a bet or not, shorties happen to win a lot of hunter chases, if he's winning does it matter if this is his choice of race to only back in.
If your bone of contention is that anyone can tip up shorties and you feel that's all he does and is doing it purely for attention, then stay away and don't give him the attention, win or lose.

Big Guru - I don`t doubt he`s in profit and I don`t particularly care. I only care about the 3 I bet, which I don`t criticise him for if you read the posts. I merely state, I`ll be laying his selections from now on, rather than betting them. When you tip winners you get plaudits, when you tip losers you get slagged, that`s the nature of the game. I`m sure he`ll be a hero the next time he picks a winner, but he won`t come on here saying, "Guys, guys, cut out the plaudits. Fed up with you all jumping on the bandwagon with wonderful comments when I tip a winner"! He should ignore the flak and just shut us up by tipping a winner next time.
I enjoy his posts but won`t be betting them.

I got paid for my opinion for over 20 years so it can`t be that bad.
so why follow someone else?
Simple answer to that, like 90% of folk on here, I`m a compulsive gambler and bet on everything. At least I admit it and unlike most compulsive gamblers I show a profit each year. I don`t know anything about Hunters Chases so rather than guess, I thought it wiser to follow an expert who knows everything about them. No one forced me to bet them and I assert no blame. I`m sure you`ll come good again but I won`t be betting in them silly "farmers" races ever again.

mightymac, if you think because 3 lost on the trot is the measure of a mans ability to pick winners or to be in profit in the long term, give the game up and go to a G.A. meeting, I don't think I've ever read Koi post that he was an "expert", to even use the word expert when talking about anyone or anything connected to the racing game, says more about you than anything else.

You could have previewed, Buckstruther was all out to beat Tommysteele 2 lengths at Tranwell on 6 April, who in turn finished 42 lengths behind Special Portrait at Perth last week, when Digg Whitaker unseated at Sedgefield 2 out he was about 4 lengths behind Special Portrait and 6 lengths in front of Be There In Five, who has since won at Hornby Castle. When previosly 6th at Catterick Digg Whitaker finished one place in front of Duke Of Kenford since winner of 2 points. So with the John Wade stable in fine form (baring the luckless fall of Blazing Bull yesterday) and rider having winners every weekend including at Easingwold yesterday, DIGG WHITAKER looks a fantastic EACH WAY bet. This is a one and only performance, don't ask me to post my bets it would take all night.

Always enjoy reading ANALYSIS of races, that is what the forum is for. Koi always gives reasoned analysis for his selections and the other principle in the race. I don;t always share his opinion but everyone ultimately needs to make their own mind up.
I guess that your style of thinking gives greatest weighting to current form and hence that is why your picks are almost always at the forefront of the market. When favourites lose there tends to be greater backlash from the masses and people are looking for someone to blame.
