This weekend you will. I am a racecourse bookmaker and this Thursday (25th April) I am setting out with 12 friends to cycle from Coast to Coast, from Whitehaven to South Shields, over the Pennines. I am doing it to help a 12 year old boy from Tamworth who has Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy who is in desperate need of a specialist wheelchair. As a result of his condition he must ‘stand’ for 10 mins out of every hour to relieve the pressure on his organs. As he is wheelchair bound he can only do this with a chair that converts into a stander. These chairs cost £17,000. The cycle ride is about 150 miles over the Pennines so I can guarantee I will be working hard and suffering! I am looking for sponsorship to help this lad and his family. If you can spare a couple of quid for a great cause and support a bookie suffering, please donate at www.justgiving.com/Luke-T and mention in the message box that its for the Coast to Coast cycle ride. Thank you
Great stuff wasnot, isn't it shocking the NHS cannot meet his needs. I'll donate £10 quid and if Guising wins at Windsor I'll double it. I'd get a lot of pleasure watching a bookie suffer

JustGiving charges 5 per cent on fundraising. But it applies the charge after gift aid is added - a 25 per cent top-up from the government - and also includes a credit card charge. In all, up to 6.5 per cent is taken from the amount that would otherwise go to the charity.
JustGiving was founded by Zarine Kharas and Anne-Marie Huby, who pioneered the concept. In an interview with the London Evening Standard last year, Kharas said it was a 'for-profit' organisation.

Caudwell receive nothing for doing this. All of their expenses are covered by John Caudwell, a philanthropist. This is why I like Caudwell Children, all of the money raised goes to the child's campaign and Caudwell hold the money as trustees for the child.

If John Caudwell is paying all the ex's of Caudwell Children does it matter how much the chief exec is on? Unlike other charities, the salaries don't come out of the donations.

From the website: "Upon the successful sale of his family business, entrepreneur and philanthropist, John Caudwell, committed to a long-term partnership with the charity. Frustrated with the lack of transparency from other charities, Mr Caudwell agreed to cover the annual management and administration costs of the charity through a single donation; therefore providing complete transparency to fellow benefactors.
Due to the unique association with the Caudwell Family, the charity can boast that 100% of direct donations are used to directly support disabled children. In addition to this, the charity team work closely with suppliers to negotiate the best possible deals, ensuring each charitable £1 is doubled to provide at least £2 worth of support."

My mate has had a whip around at work and with his in the pot we are up to £905. Would be amazing if we could get up to £1,000. Any other bookies on here not pledged yet? If anyone is unsure about it, google duchenne muscular dystrophy and see what this poor little lad is going through. My pain from the ride is insignificant. If we can make his life a little better it will all be worth it.

No, I don't know them mugbookie. Found out about the appeal through the charity Caudwell Children. Tamworth is not too far from me and it seemed so cruel and unfair so I wanted to help. Duchenne MD is horrible.

Coast to Cast ride completed. Not without incident. I managed to come off the bike 4 times in total. Gashed knee, bruised hip and elbow. Finished with virtually no brakes but finish it I did. We had heavy rain, sleet, massive hail storms and at the end of day 2 we had over an inch of snow. We took shelter but the snow settled as we were on high ground so we completed the final six miles through snow on the ground and driving snow still falling. Huge thank you to the team of lads who kept me going through the tough times, to the on-course bookmakers who came up trumps again with sponsorship and to everyone on here who supported me. I see from Luke's website that there are donations from xmoneyx, collywobble, squeeze firmly, sixtwosix, Makybe Diva and some anonymous ones. Thank you so much guys, it really kept me going when I thought I couldn't go on. We have raised well over £1,000 for Luke's wheelchair appeal. I'll be seeing the northern bookies at Chester and York in the next few weeks and will see if I can top it up even further. I'll be at Towcester tomorrow if anyone wants to come and add to the donations there All the best, David Hughes (T/a Bob Hughes).

When I saw that you were betting on the ride with your twelve friends and it was a staggered start (in essence a handicap) and you were paying a fifth the odds 1-2 I thought that I would pass.....
