Hi the brother of a friend of mine passed away last year and in amongst his collection of old racing books was this photo. We think we can identify Richard Hannon snr, Frankie Durr and Greville Starkey but would welcome it if any of the community can identify any of the others in the photo. The gentleman who passed away lived all his life in Salisbury so we assume the photo was taken in a pub in Salisbury, perhaps sometime in the last 60's or early 70's.
Joe MERCER - Middle row - over Richard Hannon's right shoulder - and the old man's left shoulder
Willie CARSON ? - bottom left, front row - with the woman's arm around him.
Know the face of the guy over Hannon's left shoulder - bu cannot put a name to him. Likewise top row middle.
* I wonder if the old man is a retired trainer - celebrating a Golden/Diamond Wedding, or something similar

Richard Hannon, Frankie Durr and Richard Linley - I would bet heavily on. I would be a big layer that Greville or Gary Moore appear. Just an observation but the little bloke attempting to breastfeed is probably not Willie Carson.

onlooker - I know the guy on Hannon's right shoulder is the one you believe to be Joe Mercer, but there is MORE chance the geezer on Hannon's left shoulder is Nick Faldo

Well that's your OPINION - thebrave. He even has the same CHIN as Joe Mercer, too.https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=joe%20mercer%20jockey&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
would agree and 90% certain back row Jeff King, Linley and a young Andy Turnell.
I would have said that is Joe Mercer behind Hannon's right shoulder, bit more hair then.
Starkey, Durr, Hannon def. But no idea who the old couple are or the 3 other in pic.

The elderly couple are Mr & Mrs B Davis and it was a party to celebrate the victory of their horse Mon Fils in the 1973 2000 Guineas. Hannon trained it and Durr rode it.

May we ask - how did you know it was them - and the said celebrations?
Your answer, presumably, not being just an 'educated guess'.
Interesting - mightymac.Mon Fils was indeed owned by Mrs B Davis.May we ask - how did you know it was them - and the said celebrations?Your answer, presumably, not being just an 'educated guess'.

> Jeff King > Richard LINLEY (definitely) > Andy Turnell (alt. maybe one of the Sherwood brothers) > Not known - not necessarily a (Jump) Jockey, even - rather barrel-chested.
MIDDLE Row
> Greville Starkey (has been suggested > Frankie FURR (definitely) > Joe MERCER (one person has disputed - BUT, 90+% very much like Joe) - Not known (John Williams has been suggested)
FRONT Row
> Greville Starkey suggested (again) - I and another, though, suggest possible Willie Carson > Mrs & Mr Davis > Richard HANNON
themightymac -The general consensus is .....TOP Row - from left to right> Jeff King > Richard LINLEY (definitely) > Andy Turnell (alt. maybe one of the Sherwood brothers) > Not known - not necessarily a (Jump) Jockey, even - rather barrel-chested.MI
Just going back to that international jockey's day at Sandown. It was at one of those where Willie Shoemaker rode a Barry Hills horse (Soaf I think) - that went off at 33/1 because the horse's form was at 7f on firm ground, and that day at Sandown it was in a 5f race on soft. All bar Shoemaker went off too fast and stopped to nothing in the final furlong. Shoemaker came sailing through and won. For a jockey who didn't know the horse, or the track, and had probably never ridden a straight 5 furlongs in his life, I thought it was a fair old demonstration of the little fella's skill.
