Q11 The Grand National had the current Welsh,Scottish and Irish national winners all running.
Not to mention the latest Hennessy and Whitbread winners. |
By:
Q8 is it the winner kicked out by the Stewards placings reversed.
By:
sorry Paddy, all wrong as such, Q12 relates to UK Group races, but Dessie hasn't won any in either Ireland or UK to my knowledge.
Q1 the number of winning amateurs was not what I am looking for, but you are correct factually and I'm awarding you 2 bonus points accordingly as it would be harsh not to reward effort...! Q11 relates to the whole 2002 Festival meeting not just the Grand National. Q8 nothing to do with the stewards or any skullduggery come to that...! |
By:
Q5 Always Waining
By:
Not Always Waining, he has only made 4 appearances to date at the festival, debuting in 2009 with form figures of 4111
By:
Q6 - is it the multiplied odds of 1-2s gained in a race by those trainers?
By:
Q23 could be the great Manifesto (though I doubt it). He was last of 8 to finish in the National at the age of 16 (and got a mighty cheer), having previously won the race twice, and been 3rd 3 times, though he was probably happy to still be racing.
By:
Q23 on reflection wording of the question could be misleading, the horse in question had Cheltenham and Aintree Festival wins to its credit but its final race after a four year gap was actually here in Ireland and was in this century.
Awarding 2 bonus points to ged as Manifesto did fit the required criteria as well the way the question was worded. |
By:
well done ged, knew I could rely on you to answer Q6, the five points are deservedly yours.
By:
18 L'Escargot
By:
correct again ged, L'Escargot was one of the incumbents for Q18
By:
1. 100/1 winner
By:
Q1 not 100/1 winner, only been two since 1960 as posted by crystalhunt
By:
11. 5 co-favourites (or joint-second favourites)
By:
Q18 rider of L'Escargot was Tommy Carberry
By:
Q11 not co-favs, this question like all of them relates to the whole Festival meeting, not just the Grand National.
By:
correct ged but the second incumbent is another horse that did the same thing as L'Escargot 3/2/1 in one of the Festival races over the Aintree fences
By:
q11 no odds on favs?
By:
Q1 - the winner has finished 2nd in the following year.
By:
Q18 Gayle Warning in the Foxhunters
By:
Q11 not the answer I'm looking for Stevie, factually correct, but not unique, as 1995/1996/2001/2002 were also odds on fav free...!
By:
Q11 showed a LSP?
By:
Q7 The Pilgarlic and Nigel Twiston-Davies - also an answer to Q19?
By:
Q1 - ged not the answer I am looking for, but 2 bonus points awarded as it fits the criteria, would have been cruel not to reward your effort...!
By:
Q23 Unsinkable Boxer
By:
Q18 correct ged, Gayle Warning the second part of the answer
By:
Q7 correct ged
Q19 yes also part of said answer Q23 correct, poor horse turned out at Naas, what were they thinking of? |
By:
ged, being slow here what is LSP?
By:
Level Stake Profit.
By:
Q19 also... Jim Wilson? Nicky Henderson? Paul Webber? John Queally? Caroline Saunders?
By:
Q11 not LSP ged, 2002 did show LSP, but not unique, 2008 also showed LSP.
By:
Q2 Credit Call
By:
Q19 Jim Wilson/Paul Webber/John Queally correct, we also had Nigel Twiston Davies and Oliver Sherwood earlier, so three are still three to be guessed
By:
Q2 correct ged, you're well into your stride now...!

An update of what still needs to be solved
Q1 – This has happened 4 times in the Grand National since 1960, what is it? Q3 – Div 3 of the Coronation Hurdle in 1974 was won by one of Bob Turnell’s decent hurdlers, Tree Tangle, unplaced behind him were a future Arkle winner and runner up, name them? Q4 – Over a ten year period this race proved very fruitful to favourite backers with 9 out of 10 victorious, the 7th in the cycle proved to be the disappointment, name the race and the horse who was the beaten favourite? Q5 – It could be said that I always upped my game at Aintree, over a consecutive six year period my form figures at the Festival read as follows: 116114, if the rain had stayed away I would argue that it would read 111111, who am I? Q8 – Although not unique, it has only happened twice at the Aintree Festival in the last 50 years, what is it? Q9 – Which combination fell at the final flight when holding every chance in the Liverpool Hurdle, then remounted and completed for 4th place? Q10 – My first placing over the Aintree fences resulted in me finishing a respectable but well beaten 4th, 36 years later I returned to improve one place into 3rd, who am I? Q11 – The 2002 year of the whole Festival was different to all other years with regard to market leaders, what made it uniquely different? Q12 – These 3 all rode Aintree Festival winners before adding training UK Group winners to their respective CV’s, who are they? Answered in part, Tommy Stack – 2 still to get Q13 – What do the following riders, D.Gallagher/P.Brennan/M.Dwyer/D.O’Regan all have in common at the Aintree Festival? Q14 – For 13 consecutive years I succeeded in getting each of my mounts to place 1st, 2nd or 3rd, who am I and what race am I referring to? Q15 – Is it any wonder I did not win, I was asked to run from way out of the handicap and my jockey couldn’t even bother to make the correct weight, putting up 2lb overweight, the greedy flogger…! It was not the National thankfully, but the weight told in the end, I still think I did exceptionally well to finish a gallant second beaten 5 lengths. A change of jockey worked wonders, as although faced with a similar task the following year, I led the field a merry dance and was still in front at the line, who am I? Q19 – The 1981 Foxhunters contained 8 horses ridden by people who went on to train, name the 8 and state which have gone on to train winners at the Aintree Festival? Answered in part, Oliver Sherwood, Nigel Twiston Davies, Jim Wilson, Paul Webber, John Queally, still need the other 3 Q20 – In a consecutive four year period we all trained horses that failed to beat an Aintree stalwart, though our charges did manage to make the first 4, we were all somewhat more accomplished at training flat horses, with each of us training Group winners, name the four of us? Answered in part, Guy Harwood/Barry Hillls/R.J.Houghton , need one more Q21 – These two people are the only individuals to have a sole winner at the Aintree Festival and to have trained a Group winner, name them? Note exclude all and there are many, who have had winners and placed horses at the Aintree Festival and trained Group winners. Q22 – Over a period of eight consecutive years, the podium places in this top race included runners from 9 dual purpose trainers, who number the following between them 3 Chester Cups 3 Doncaster Cups 4 Ebor Handicaps 5 Lincoln Handicaps 7 Fighting Fifth Hurdles 7 Champion Hurdles 7 Classics 8 of them have had Royal Ascot winners 5 of them have held the title of Champion Trainer Each of the 9 individual Trainers qualifies under at least two of the criteria. Name the race, the 9 Trainers and the two without a Royal Ascot winner? Q25 – Paul Nicholls has trained a placed horse at the Aintree Festival (1st to 4th) starting with every letter of the alphabet except three, what are they? Plenty of points still available, so thinking caps on guys...! |

Q12 Jamie Osborne; Jonjo?
By:
Q12 correct ged, just one more to get
By:
Jamie Osborne correct, that is, not Jonjo...!
By:
Did Mr A P O'Brien - ever ride an Aintree Festival winner?
------------------ Another correct answer would be ......... BRUCE HOBBS - - Won the Natonal on BATTLESHIP - Trained many a Group Winner. |
By:
Aidan didn't according to my data Onlooker, Mr Hobbs fits the criteria but a little earlier than from when these questions were based ie 1960 onwards
