ged, 2 points for Tompkins, think I'll have to do all the data entry myself in future, one of the girls using her initiative had entered Goldhill under Mick Easterby, my fault really as I had them headed Mick & Peter rather than M.W and M.H

Right fingers at the ready here goes with what is left
Q1 – This has happened 4 times in the Grand National since 1960, what is it? Clue – The emergency services might help you solve a quarter of this problem at least Q8 – Although not unique, it has only happened twice at the Aintree Festival in the last 50 years, what is it? Clue – Makes calculating the payout for the bookmaker much simpler Q10 – My first placing over the Aintree fences resulted in me finishing a respectable but well beaten 4th, 36 years later I returned to improve one place into 3rd, who am I? Clue – Things have gone flat for this fellow since, but it could be argued that there is a gleeful look on his face most days Q15 – Is it any wonder I did not win, I was asked to run from way out of the handicap and my jockey couldn’t even bother to make the correct weight, putting up 2lb overweight, the greedy flogger…! It was not the National thankfully, but the weight told in the end, I still think I did exceptionally well to finish a gallant second beaten 5 lengths. A change of jockey worked wonders, as although faced with a similar task the following year, I led the field a merry dance and was still in front at the line, who am I? Solve this anagram to identify me – THREATEN TAX Q19 – The 1981 Foxhunters contained 8 horses ridden by people who went on to train, name the 8 and state which have gone on to train winners at the Aintree Festival? Answered in part, Oliver Sherwood, Nigel Twiston Davies, Jim Wilson, Paul Webber, John Queally, Tim Walford, Martin Bosley, Jenny Hembrow Four of the five Aintree winners identified OS/NTD/AJW/PW who is the fifth Q21 – These two people are the only individuals to have a sole winner at the Aintree Festival and to have trained a Group winner, name them? Note exclude all and there are many, who have had winners and placed horses at the Aintree Festival and trained Group winners. Answered in part, Sally Hall, still need the male Solve the anagram to identify him – BOAT DID VAT RUN Q25 – Paul Nicholls has trained a placed horse at the Aintree Festival (1st to 4th) starting with every letter of the alphabet except three, what are they? Answered in part, X/Y, still need the other Clue – A race name at Chester will give you the required letter |

Q8 - going to give you it Jezebel as you are on the right track and close enough, the exact answer was that in the last 50 years there has been just two races (1965 Foxhunters & 2002 Topham) where the returned SP for the first 3 was exactly the same ie in 1965 they all returned at 8/1 and in the 2002 Topham at 10/1

Q21 - correct Mightyfly
|
|
By:
I think the problem with the first question (and don't get me wrong, I'm enjoying guessing in an immensely frustrated way, and the work you've put into the quiz is phenomenal) is that, as we've established with some of our previous attempts, there isn't simply one answer. There are lots of things that have only happened four times since 1960. It could be there were no fallers at Becher's, because that's only happened four times since 1960 (not including the void race), except you've already said it's nothing to do with fallers. The 'perfect' quiz question has one, indisputable answer.
I feel like I'm in that episode of Friends when Phoebe sets a quiz and one of the questions is "what is the best thing about trees?" ![]() |

By:
Q10 - correct Mightyfly, though it was more G.Lee as such, as a G.Lee rode the 4th Hyanna in the 1967 Topham and G.Lee rode Amberleigh House to be 3rd in the 2004 Gran National

By:
Very fair point Jezebel, which is why bonus points are a handy thing to have as a backup, it is very refreshing that people have put so much effort and thought into their answers, it makes setting the questions worthwhile.
