Just had a quick look at Easter Monday's cards

Fakenham - Tedious uncompetitive mince, probably run on much worse ground than is officially announced.
Huntingdon - Arguably the strongest jumps card, mediocre fare.
Newcastle - A couple of decent handicaps floating around in a sea of dross.
Plumpton - Starts off OK, but ends with three consecutive 0-95 handicaps aimed at out and out donkeys.
Redcar - Mostly crap, no surprises there.
Warwick - Poor
Yarmouth - Not quite as terrible as I expected but ordinary enough.
Fairyhouse - Nothing wrong with the quality but ATR race clash hell is on the cards
Cork - 3 Hunter Chases, 2 of which are maidens, a point to point bumper and a Mares point to point bumper. Good god!
Maybe ATR won't bother to show this drivel. God help anyone who wants a decent bet on it with 8 other meetings anyway.

We used to get some great cards, Easter monday, must be a slow day for the big books.
No turnover on Easter Monday

Was there a time when you did get quality on this day?

Huntingdon, Fakenhan and Yarmouth.

I don't know why they didn't stick a meeting on the Rowley Mile too, just to complete the set.

The problem with racing is theirs either too much or too little, too many favorites winning or non at all,

the course bookies cant make ends meet or they do their backs in carrying the full satchels home, its too hot

or too cold, its too sunny or it never stops raining, in fact considering its all about moaning it has too be

one of the favorite British sports and just like the soccer

Was always Kempton at Easter.

Persian War, Bula, Comedey of Errors, Birds Nest etc always ran in the Welsh Champion Hurdle. But it was never on TV, you had to wait for the minor meeting results after racing.

40 years ago, Kempton's Easter Monday card started with a good sprint conditions race (won by The Go-Between), the Queen's Prize, a valuable Easter Handicap over 1m3f (worth twice as much as the Queen's prize), and the Masaka Stakes (a 1000 guineas trial). Newcastle had the William Hill-sponsored Northern Free handicap, followed by its own Easter Handicap (won by a Henry Cecil horse) - Cecil sent 3 runners - 2 winners and a 2nd.

On the Tuesday, the Epsom card featured the 2m2f Great Met (20 runners), and the Blue Riband Trial (including Boldboy amongst the runners).

Nottingham on Easter Monday featured the Joke Oral Sprint handicap. with Le Johnstan and Denys Smith's Flintham at the top of the weights - they finished first and second as 3-1 jt favs. Melchbourne won the last race on the card.

You obviously weren't looking at the cards on Sporting Life website. Fairyhouse card not even shown. Poor service.

Where did it all go wrong ?

The only change I can see is that it's now 7 dreadful cards as opposed to about 15 dreadful cards!  Easter racing has always been pretty poor has it not?

It's unbelievable. I'd quite like to go racingg on Monday, but the closest meeting would be a 250 mile round trip, and I don't live out in a far flung corner of the country.

Why, have they got much racing on there over Easter?

Kempton Park was the centrepiece - with 2 good cards, Sat and Mon, with 3 pattern races, and 3 good handicaps spread across the 2 days. Both cards usually started with fair 2yo maidens - Richard Hannon usually aimed a couple of his better early 2yo's at them.  Newcastle Monday was decent.

The major missing piece is Kempton, whose 2 days were the highlight of the weekend for British racing. They usually had the first 2 guineas trials, so it was the first chance to see the classic (or mainly near-classic) 3yos, and to see how they'd come on from 2 to 3. That disappeared, and nothing took its place. Newcastle has just steadily deteriorated for years with Northern Racing in charge, losing several of their good races (Northern Free hcap, Virginia Stakes, Dipper Chase), with others being downgraded (Beeswing, Seaton Delaval).
