Im a subscriber to the home service and this morning received a letter/notice from SIS that home users will now have to pay the same tariff as commercial subscribers (£13,527 PA plus VAT)

This comes into effect from the 1st May - I know they dont have many home users but thats a hefty hike to have to suck up considering how slow the pics have become recently since the move. Plus the fact that they have lost a few tracks to RUK.

A right pain in the arse but the other option is bf video which over the course of a days inrunning - the cost of £45 for a day for the new tariff is minimal really. I just hate the feeling that someone has you by the balls - and although its harder and harder to make it off SIS - you can still make a decent wage if you know your inrunning/horses/opportunities etc

Be interesting to hear other subbies views - and whether they are gonna cough up and play on.

G luck

You would have to be a grade A mug to pay £16k a year for something that is effectively free on Betfair.Shocked
Report use2begudear February 28, 2013 11:21 AM GMT
e mail them back and ask when the faster fibre optic pictures that were promised 18 months ago will be happening Laugh
Report charliefarleypuddingandpie February 28, 2013 11:38 AM GMT
Not paying the new subs. I think the words are "b0ll0cks".
Report thirty-three February 28, 2013 12:00 PM GMT
Woah 16k per year that's gonna hurt!
Report scoobytoo February 28, 2013 12:35 PM GMT
I havent received the letter yet but i wont be paying that.
So thats 16231 + the winter evening sevice (approx 1800) and sis + on top (approx 500)
18500 for what they offer.
The pathetic  thing about it is they wont give a flying if they lose any of the customers
Report Wicklow February 28, 2013 12:48 PM GMT
Well thats its scooby - I dont think they care less if they lose all of the home users. Ive tried using the BF vid for say the likes of ascot - but its not for me trying to make out whats going on in a race in a 3 tiny screen on my laptop - never mind the times that it dont work or the buffering issues..

Bit of a smelly start to the day that - lets hope it can get better
Report rocky ttotal February 28, 2013 12:58 PM GMT
you are right about lv Wicklow, far too frustrating gave up on it long ago.
Report Wicklow February 28, 2013 1:28 PM GMT
If anyone can make it pay off the LV then fair play to them - but I dont think I could - you cant judge just from Ascot as its prob one of the harder tracks with the track players and the delay - but i couldnt imagine myself squinting off that tiny screen trying to distinguish silks in a big field split either side of the track in a 6f sprint at ripon in the summer. So 45//50 quid for the day - its rough but its 1 race/bet to be able to play from home.
Report OVERSEAS February 28, 2013 1:35 PM GMT
fwiw gave up the SIS package about a year mainly due to the charge but also the changing nature of the game here with liquidity going south/track players fighting amongst themselves...my returns are far lower with less inplay (only play off RUK) but thats how the game has gone..18K plus is a 25K year wage before tax so they are having a laugh with the cost..
Report starfish and coffee February 28, 2013 1:36 PM GMT
Wicklow if the small screen blv annoys you you can connect your laptop to a bigger monitor using a cable and have the lv what ever size you want. Agree with you though for all the hassle with it and that's when it does work you're better off with sis.
Report pumphol. February 28, 2013 1:43 PM GMT
I work from LV  obviously on a smaller scale to Wicklow, if your making enough to swallow the annual amount then good luck to you, all I will say is yes there are certain races & meetings where the LV is a struggle to see the racing & lay in running but will say that will occur on a small minority of races over the year I for one can survive without laying in running on  races like the Coventry & the Wokingham.
All the best.
Report scoobytoo February 28, 2013 1:45 PM GMT
just received the letter-it almost reads that they just want to say adieu

jolly good of them to say you can just terminate it as its higher than RPI

bunch of ****s
Report Wicklow February 28, 2013 1:46 PM GMT
Ah yah S/C I figured you could do that but have nt tried it - i guess the picture quality will be terrible though - but yah as you said its the reliability of it that puts me off for a full time prospect.

Defo getting harder and harder with lack of liquidity, PC, extra overheads costs to make a wage from it - everyone getting squeezed left right and centre - wonder how long the inrunning game has left.

Iv'e had the SIS home service now for 2 years, now comfortably make £200 pw.
Report Wicklow February 28, 2013 1:54 PM GMT
Interesting post pumphol - I get what your saying - and good luck to you aswell - Paying the extra hike is affordable enough - but its the cheek of them that would put you off paying. All the talk of fibre optic and all that over the last year or so and nowt been done - Only change has been a delay in pictures and an increase in subs (jan) and now the big hike in May.

They remind me of our good friends at BF with the PC - damed if u do damed if u dont

wowee
what a thoroughly contemptible outfit
this is what they do when they lose tracks to the competition is it?
Laugh
Report dustybin February 28, 2013 2:03 PM GMT
...be able to play Ascot on RUK soon anyway
fukem
Report rcing February 28, 2013 2:09 PM GMT
in-running might be getting harder as other players get better imo , aswell as other factors .
Report Biscar Two from a mile back February 28, 2013 2:09 PM GMT
Are they "allowed" just to terminate an old contract on the basis they want to charge more ?
Report aspy65 February 28, 2013 2:21 PM GMT
if you want to play betfair LV then get a large monitor, log into betfair then before you open live video go to tools(top right of browser) and zoom in to %200... then open live vidieo and it play just like sis... tell sis to do one !!!!!!!
Report rcing February 28, 2013 2:32 PM GMT
but the quality of picture degrades the more you magnify it aspy
Report sludge February 28, 2013 4:07 PM GMT
How big do u have your picture aspy ? Also whats the quality of the picture please ?
Report sludge March 3, 2013 5:16 PM GMT
Any change of an answer aspy ?
Report aspy65 March 4, 2013 1:12 PM GMT
i have a "24 monitor, i zoom into %200, the picture quality is very good, you can see action the the horses legs etc etc  and you dont have to pay £5 to watch   just back the fav for £5 and then lay straight back for £5 and watch for free.
Report sludge March 4, 2013 3:14 PM GMT
Thanks Aspy - sounds good.
Report dustybin March 4, 2013 3:38 PM GMT
the image still degrades tho, it might be usable but theres deffo a point about definition being a factor, especially when its dark or far away or a number of runners
Report tomhunt March 4, 2013 3:49 PM GMT
is there a reason why the original pic from betfair can't be bigger?
Report DOUBLED March 4, 2013 4:24 PM GMT
dont have rights to show bigger picture Shocked
Report Ramruma March 4, 2013 4:44 PM GMT
bigger picture means more electrons over the interweb so slower -- be careful what you wish for

When will the new SiS channel with faster pictures tailored for in-running be available ? Will definitely happen but it is anyones guess when.
Report pumphol. March 4, 2013 5:35 PM GMT
The earth  will eventually burn up as well in a few billion years, that may just about happen after SIS get there act together.
