Durose - I can only recall one horse trained by Ray Peacock and that was Rushmoor in the 80's...quite a decent hurdler.

Not the same man, Navel. Dick trained in Middleham, and was son of Matt (who trained dante), who in turn was son of Dobson Peacock (used to be a race named after him, at newcastle I think. Dick still has one named after him at Thirsk). They all trained from the same stables in Middleham. Ray Peacock is still around, and trains in Worcs? Dick died in the 1980s.

jimnast - I don't know, but I'd be surprised if there hasn't been another one. Sea Pigeon ran at Beverley, Hamilton and Redcar as a reigning champion hurdler! - and may also have run at Doncaster? (But you were presumably meaning over hurdles)

Birds Nest beat Sea Pigeon in a 3-horse race at Donny (the first time they met), but that was when the latter was with Gordon Richards, so well before his Champion days. GW ran him at the track several times. He won the Rossington Main there. (I know that's not answering your question!).

I have revised my opinion of the Colours to - Light Blue - either Dark Blue or Maroon, or Dark Brown, even, BRACES - and Cap --------------------- durose - J Galbraith colours - were - Black and White Hoops, Light Blue Sleeves. |

G Soulsby colours were - Royal Blue, White sash, and sleeves, Blue cap with White spots. There were only 7 runners, too - when Fearless Lad won the Highflyer Stakes at Thirsk, in Sept 1981. |

MICHELEZZO,I was at Uttoxeter that day and backed it in the Narbol course shop's, had about 5 or 6 slips with £30 or £40 EW at SP, think it was 10's, the manager screamed the place down when I went to draw.

I honestly do not know - durose.
Two ways of. possibly, finding out 1 a} - We are able to establish whose colours they are - NOT easy - But then need to find what horses he owned - and when, of course 1 b) - The runner-up is a Grey - carrying either Black, or Brown, body with Pink, or possibly White, sleeves. 2) - I wade through every Sprint race Result - including 2-yr-old races,and 3-yr-old Maidens - since around 1968 to 1978 ..... to find a wide-margin winner, with the runner-up clear of the others .... But, then - just how FAR is this Photo from the WINNING LINE? |

Budge had a Red and Yellow Quartered Cap - This may just be a Red Cap Red Epaulettes on Shoulders, too - for Budge. |

Bearing in mind the QUALITY of COLOUR Photography from that time - compared to today. I have ZOOMED Up the Picture, as best I could - and am still not sure whether the Colours on the SECOND (Grey) horse have SPOTS on the Cap - OR, it is just the Silk TIE RIBBON at the Front, and Central Cap BUTTON on the top - as I do not think that the Jockeys are wearing Helmets. ------------------------ For those who may concur .... - and can, consequently, come up with Trainers for these Owners - or, better still, Horses that they owned .... LEADING Chestnut Horse. I will try and check - The Ohhstrom 'link' rings a bell - from somewhere..
I am also wondering if Parsons is the father, or Uncle, of Jim Parsons - who had those 'Superior' named horse with Fahey, recently. Jim's colours, though, are - White, Black Star. |

They do look very much like the Budge colours back in the pack. I think the epaulettes are there. The cap does look all red, but hard to be sure. It also has a noseband, some size, and looks like it's a typical Jimmy Fitz horse not being asked for everything on the day!

Interesting that you mention Fitzgerald as - Tim Kilroe - of Jimmy Fitz Forgive N'Forget fame/ownership - had colours almost identical to Budge. Budge had Red Epaulettes - with a Red & Yellow QUARTERED Cap ..... Kilroe had a Red SPOTS - with a RED Cap. I favour the Kilroe colours, in this Photo. |
