FRENCH CANADIAN

A horse that is improving fast & has progressed through the P2P field, taking a step up in each race.
Made its seasonal debut at Ampton  in an Intermediate point( a course that is very similar to Market Rasen) in which it hacked up……( fastest time of the day).. …
came from off the pace & quickening impressively, won as it liked………..it was fit for its return after doing plenty of schooling &  this race has been the target for a while!

The  distance of 3m1f will suit it, it finished 2nd in its maiden over 20f by a horse that had run out earlier in the day after the 3rd fence……but was allowed to take its chance in this later race…& duly won…something that would probably never happen under rules these days.
Rob Jarrett has ridden it in all but one of its races… takes the ride again here.

CURRENT EXCHANGE
Probably the “form” horse of the race (  7 from 9 in points) but was pulled up on its reappearance in a good race at  CHADDESLEY CORBETT,  it was actually the 13/8 fav….the winner was Cottage Oak, who is unbeaten in points & a Hunter Chase this season.
It probably needed the run that day, and the ground was like a bog.
It ran “What a Laugh” to 2L in a Hunter last season, a cracking run, but has a habit of hitting a few.
The ground will be no problem, I think it was more of a fitness issue when it was pulled up last time.
Has to give weight away to everything here & could be vulnerable to an  improver.

ALFOISIN
Only won a 2 horse race last time after surviving a blunder at the last fence, its form seems to be in average races & was well beat when it met Gidam Gidam & Superior wisdom.
Needs quick ground & may need the run, but don’t think it has the form to win this.

This race should revolve around these three, Current Exchange is the form horse as it stands & would have been hard to desert had it  run to somewhere near its form last time….but I think the fast improving FRENCH CANADIAN will be hard to beat on its Hunter chase debut getting the weight….
With fitness guaranteed…, something the rest of the field have to prove it … barring accidents it could take some beating.

"If only I could have a stable of horses like him it would be easy," smiled Caroline Robinson, who had come to Ampton for the ground. "I didn't want him to run on heavy, because he's a speed horse, and I knew this would be all right," she added.

"Immy [her daughter] has been schooling him at home, and I knew he was fit," said Caroline, whose younger daughter Kitty is set to make her debut on Whistling Straits at Thorpe, weather permitting.

Next stop for French Canadian could be a Maiden Hunters' Chase at Market Rasen, and Caroline also has in her mind a later target, the Connolly's Red Mills final at Cheltenham.

Let's hope the ground does not dent French Canadian's speedConfused

I've been delving into these races for a while and looking online for info and despite lots of sites I haven't found anywhere that goes into much detail about the tracks.

A p2p geezer put on facebook today that he wanted to see how French Canadian would handle the track but the preview writer on hunterchases.com said ....a track not too dissimilar to Market Rasen – showed the horse is better than ever (clocked the fastest time that day), and connections have had this race in mind since that win......

Do you know a site that has a more detailed description of the p2p tracks koi (or anyone else)? I'm not keen here to have to rely on some other geezers imo!

Can vouch that koi has nothing to do with the site but without doubt he has enough knowledge of this subject to rival it with his tips an write ups!! Enjoy reading both before making my own mind up,both have a very high success rate. The site also has a good review an results page aswell as previews of all hunterchases under rules. Keep posting koi dont let them get under your skin, dont be forced into finding anything other than the winner in your opinion we dont make-up the prices !Wink!

Insideshrewdie...I was wanting 1st time poster to say something BEFORE the race..it will never happen.

As for tomorrow, its a no bet race for me...

SURENAGA needs good ground
BERMUDA BOY has little chance of staying on the ground & Steve Flooks horses are running too bad to be true.
PRINCE MASSINI has won on soft ground, but its not ideal, may need the run on its seasonal debut.
SHOOTIN THE BREEZE, another who will struggle staying the 3m imo
The other 2 have little chance on form...

BUT,,,something has to win it.... not a race for me!
Report The_Chubster • February 5, 2013 7:30 PM GMT
Soon as I saw the snow on the ground I thought the form has gone out the window.
Keep posting Koi, really enjoy your reasoned write ups.
Report reveley • February 5, 2013 8:22 PM GMT
The Rubber Man is just miles off the class of the runners tomorrow, instantly struck that one off. Shootin the Breeze looks another horse to strike off. To step up in trip and jump against some of these other horses just looks too much to ask for. Bob N'You's form is rancid and even when it came second recently, it jumped awfully and couldn't win despite Drinkwater's claim.

out of the remaining three, Prince Massini is looking to be by far the distant outsider, however, if he does take off at a double digit price as the value proposition, then I would certainly take him on as Surenaga and Bermuda Boy both have questions to answer going into this race.

gl all.

Koi, my take on it fwiw

SURENAGA goes well for this rider but needs good ground and has a double penalty to contend with
BERMUDA BOY will not stay this trip on this ground
PRINCE MASSINI should handle the ground and stay the trip but carries a penalty and rider inexperienced under rules
SHOOTIN THE BREEZE hard to see it staying this under a double penalty
BOB 'N' YOU disappointing under rules but will stay every inch of this. Probably needs better ground but Hilary Parrott now trains instead of Ian Williams and she worked wonders with Wayward Prince.  Best jockey in the race and worth a dabble with no penalty.
THE RUBBER MAN looks to have little chance

BOB 'N' YOU for me.
Report koikeeper • February 6, 2013 3:47 PM GMT
GL jmdc...Hilary parrot owns the horse as she does Wayward prince...will need to improve its jumping & will hate the ground.....nothing much going for any of the runners, but like I said , something has to win lol

Stewards on yesterdays Hunter..

The Stewards considered the apparent improvement in form of the winner, CURRENT EXCHANGE (IRE), ridden by Mr Tom David and trained by Mrs Edward Crow, compared with its previous run in a point-to-point at Chaddesley Corbett on 28 December 2012, where the gelding was pulled up. They noted the trainer could offer no explanation for the gelding’s improved form. They ordered CURRENT EXCHANGE (IRE) to be routine tested.
