FRENCH CANADIAN

A horse that is improving fast & has progressed through the P2P field, taking a step up in each race.
Made its seasonal debut at Ampton  in an Intermediate point( a course that is very similar to Market Rasen) in which it hacked up……( fastest time of the day).. …
came from off the pace & quickening impressively, won as it liked………..it was fit for its return after doing plenty of schooling &  this race has been the target for a while!

The  distance of 3m1f will suit it, it finished 2nd in its maiden over 20f by a horse that had run out earlier in the day after the 3rd fence……but was allowed to take its chance in this later race…& duly won…something that would probably never happen under rules these days.
Rob Jarrett has ridden it in all but one of its races… takes the ride again here.

CURRENT EXCHANGE
Probably the “form” horse of the race (  7 from 9 in points) but was pulled up on its reappearance in a good race at  CHADDESLEY CORBETT,  it was actually the 13/8 fav….the winner was Cottage Oak, who is unbeaten in points & a Hunter Chase this season.
It probably needed the run that day, and the ground was like a bog.
It ran “What a Laugh” to 2L in a Hunter last season, a cracking run, but has a habit of hitting a few.
The ground will be no problem, I think it was more of a fitness issue when it was pulled up last time.
Has to give weight away to everything here & could be vulnerable to an  improver.

ALFOISIN
Only won a 2 horse race last time after surviving a blunder at the last fence, its form seems to be in average races & was well beat when it met Gidam Gidam & Superior wisdom.
Needs quick ground & may need the run, but don’t think it has the form to win this.

This race should revolve around these three, Current Exchange is the form horse as it stands & would have been hard to desert had it  run to somewhere near its form last time….but I think the fast improving FRENCH CANADIAN will be hard to beat on its Hunter chase debut getting the weight….
With fitness guaranteed…, something the rest of the field have to prove it … barring accidents it could take some beating.

Thanks for the preview koi.  I've never heard of a situation like the one you describe regarding a horse running out and then running in a later race.

Agree it should be between the front two in the betting koi.  Do you give Princess Fyona any chance?

"If only I could have a stable of horses like him it would be easy," smiled Caroline Robinson, who had come to Ampton for the ground. "I didn't want him to run on heavy, because he's a speed horse, and I knew this would be all right," she added.

"Immy [her daughter] has been schooling him at home, and I knew he was fit," said Caroline, whose younger daughter Kitty is set to make her debut on Whistling Straits at Thorpe, weather permitting.

Next stop for French Canadian could be a Maiden Hunters' Chase at Market Rasen, and Caroline also has in her mind a later target, the Connolly's Red Mills final at Cheltenham.

Let's hope the ground does not dent French Canadian's speedConfused

Highly recommend Godstone. A great rural spot where you stand in the middle and can get close to the action.

Exactly, at least Koi puts up some rationale for his selection and every horse cannot win.  He never says back this just presents his reasoning and info for others to consider.  Sometimes I agree with his thinking other times I dont

AMPTON
Course Summary: Compact and undulating course; two quite acute bends, but fairly easy to negotiate and three uphill fences including the open ditch

I've been delving into these races for a while and looking online for info and despite lots of sites I haven't found anywhere that goes into much detail about the tracks.

A p2p geezer put on facebook today that he wanted to see how French Canadian would handle the track but the preview writer on hunterchases.com said ....a track not too dissimilar to Market Rasen – showed the horse is better than ever (clocked the fastest time that day), and connections have had this race in mind since that win......

Do you know a site that has a more detailed description of the p2p tracks koi (or anyone else)? I'm not keen here to have to rely on some other geezers imo!
