It is painful, boring, amateurish, and please ditch the touchscreen stuff. I for one would bring the old team back in and ditch Fitz and anyone else without a personality! Loathe McCririck and co if you must, but the programme needs characters. Im afraid the new lot are just the opposite.
If you are going to make a comment Feltfair, make it worthwhile. "Switch off" is just not good enough. Nothing would ever get changed with your attitude. The programme IMO is bland and worse for the absence of the usual lot. If you dont agree, say so! Flyingbolt doesn't rate McCririck! Now that is a constructive comment re his opinion. If you are going to contribute to the forum at least make it interesting!

I watch all racing programmes because I love racing and accept the presenters for what they are - presenters. It`s not a popularity contest. To criticise Mick Fitzgerald who has done it all I find unbelievable. Is that interesting enough?

Glad I had a browse before putting up a similar thread Evil, you said more or less what I was thinking.Today was my first view of the new regime, regardless of the lack of racing it was like a poorly carried out transplant of the BBC to CH4.
Dire, patronising and utterly bereft of anything that would appeal to newbies never mind seasoned racing enthusiasts.

GT - there are no Newbies. Patronising BBC coverage always directed their product at non-existent Newbies, explaining to us the difference between a grey and a bay, with the likes of Parrott and Wiltshire calling £40,000 bets neglecting to say that if they existed they were trade bets or city ignoramuses on a jolly. They even thought The Croc had some sort of idea about what was going on in a race. And now C4 will do the same with Nick Luck/Clegg middle-aged before his time and the disappointing Fitzgerald who averaged about 50 winners a season, fewer than the best amateurs. At least Henderson's got a chance of being champion trainer again which he was before the catastrophic arrival of Fitzgerald 25 years ago.

At least Big Mac and Fat Al actually had some passion for the sport and Tanya and Mac turned up at mundane events at Walthamstow. And dont forget,as much as he is an obnoxious, horrible individual...........he did more for racing than the whole old and new team will ever do.

Someone tweeted in a question this morning on the Morning line for Paul Nicholls along the lines of 'now Big Bucks is out what horse would be his best chance now for it?' and Nick Luck asked PN & straight away Nick Luck answered the question "That would be Tidal Bay i'd say Paul" I said to myself I'm sure whatever chance we have of him naming 2 or 3 that might be thrown into the mix that chance is gone now Nick Luck answering the question was a get out of jail card for PN and PN answered "Yeah I'd say so.

“You’re not so good on ITV” was a criticism I had to contend with when I terminated a long career with the BBC to switch to that organisation some years ago.
Once on Match of the Day we slightly altered the programme’s signature tune but got so much criticism from the viewers we quickly changed it back to the original.
I had the interesting challenge of taking the presenter’s role on Countdown after Richard Whiteley, who had chaired the programme for umpteen years, died. Some fans of the show never forgave me as if I was responsible for the poor man’s demise.
In short, most television viewers do not readily take to change, which brings me to Channel 4 Racing. I know it is early days and their big tests will come later but so far I do not feel as comfortable with their coverage as I did before.
Of course La Balding, whose trails have been shown constantly, has yet to appear regularly. She will bring her new status as national treasure to the proceedings I am sure, but I miss the West Country burr and racing nous of Johnny Francome in particular and, dare I say it, the rantings of John McCririck, who as you have probably read has not gone quietly.
Tanya Stevenson looks strangely lost without her irritating sidekick, a bit like Ernie without Eric, while Mick Fitzgerald has yet to seem as relaxed as he appeared on the BBC.
One part of sports broadcasting that changes little down the years and is all the better for it is radio commentary. I found myself awake in the small hours of Thursday morning, switching on Radio 5 Live and there was the reassuring tone of Jonathan Overend bringing us Andy Murray’s second-round match at the Australian Open. He was ably supported by the former British player Jeremy Bates. I was immediately transported to the heat and blue skies of Melbourne and for an hour or so the world seemed a better place.
The doyen of radio tennis commentators was the late Max Robertson who prided himself on trying to describe every shot played but the listener could not possibly follow where the ball was. Overend has worked out that the trick is not to try to detail every shot but to paint a word picture of the proceedings and the scenes around them which he does exceedingly well.
By the way, it is a bit like suggesting Mother Teresa had her faults, but Ms Balding has tried radio tennis commentary and, put it this way, she is not as good at it as she is at everything else.
Sports commentary on radio began for me back in the Fifties when my father and I got up in the early hours of the morning, just one wireless in the house in those days in the sitting room, to listen to the broadcast from America of the great Rocky Marciano against the British fighter Don Cockell. I was immediately hooked on both boxing and radio.
Radio sports commentary remains a delight, a journey of imagination as the commentator creates the scene and the mood for us but the medium allows our minds to wander as we please. Despite all the gadgets and gizmos of modern life it remains a beautiful constant.
In so many other areas, as Mr Salinger put it, ‘People are always ruining things for you’.

Yesterday was the first time I have watched CH4(for months) Dewey,Mick was totally out of his comfort zone.
National Hunt I have no problem with Mick,he might even have thrived with the old line up given time.
With this new shower/his old muckers.........disaster.
Chimps have been trained to use a touch screen better than that lot and Mick just does not fit in and never will if they carry on a sterile, self serving show like yesterday.Worse than the old but at least Mick would have found a niche eventually with them, once Balding shows her fat, supercilious a£$ they might as well all pack their bags.
I will offer anyone evens to any money CH4 viewing figures rise for a month and then plummet bar the "Festival" meetings.

Think we can safely assume that Mick Fitzgerald's script for the program was to be a Sea The Stars fan and would have watched a re-run of the Arc prior to going on air - in fact, perhaps just a re-run of the last few furlongs as no mention was made of the task that Kinane was faced with trying to settle him in the early stages, which was one of the lasting memories of that race.
Dire production today.

I think that looking at the overall response on this topic it is safe to say that the vast majority dont like the new set up! Words like " bland, boring and painful" seem to be the most used description of this dire programme. Many a reasoned argument put forward on both sides, but as we are ALL racing fans I reckon "SWITCH OFF" is definitely NOT amongst them. It is a racing programme and is there primarlily for racing fans. Therefore "switching off" is an utterly negative response. I want to see the programme back to something like it used to be. Everv since the Guest Test slot ( as I call it that period) when the programme took one almighty backward step into the abyss, it has steadily gone even lower. All this touch screen stuff?? Is that supposed to be what we all want?? I cannot speak for you but its not for me! It IS dross in my opinion , and I sincerely hope they go back to basics, AND SOON!

The Kempton aw preview ML shows the problem. For a start, the programme was cut in half.
Racing fans, many with jobs during the week, watch the Morning Line primarily for a preview of that afternoon's racing, and if Kempton is the only meeting, then the ML should cover Kempton and not turn up its collective nose because Ascot has been snowed off.
The Morning Line's model should be Football Focus. Review the past week; preview this afternoon; emphasis on the latter. Do not "bring on the dancing girls" to try to convert non-racing fans who are not watching anyway.
The afternoon programme should also ape the football. Show us what is happening; tell us what is happening. Do not assume that an audience which has tuned in to watch horseracing will be bored by the sight of horses in the paddock or going down to the start. Show us more: more camera angles; better, specialist pundits; more imaginative graphics. But remember we want to watch the racing.

verbotene good shout re Sea The Stars. Fitzgerald still hasn't copped that the horse was purposely buried to settle it. Anyhow I'd much rather watch the old Big Match on Sat morning's now. No teamwork whatsoever on C4 racing, all trying to be clever and all out for themselves.
