Snowing heavily now. Garden frozen solid. Can't see it thawing out sufficiently throughout the track, even if it rises to 3 degrees for a while.

Going HEAVY, Soft in pls (frozen in odd places) MUCH IMPROVED SITUATION @ 6.15am (GoingStick: 5.9 on Thursday at 16:00) Rails All bends moved to provide as much fresh ground as possible. The 3m bend and bend into straight have been divided to ensure best ground possible for hurdlers. All hurdle sites have been moved. All bar one have been moved inside to allow fresh ground not raced on since March. Weather 3.5mm of rain/sleet overnight. Temps dropped only briefly below freezing and at present are around +2/3c. Expecting a dip around daylight. On this basis we are optimistic that racing will go ahead but await the 8am inspection to see how things progress. Forecast: Odd shower down coast moving out to see later. Dry, suuny spells and temps up to a max of +3 maybe 4c during day. Monitoring continues. |

Three miles East of Gosforth Park temperatures 3C with cloud cover, I would say there is every chance the meeting will go ahead.

Predicting anything with Newcastle (whether it be racing or football) is a difficult task. Looks like Newcastle & Sunderland will be embroiled in a relegation fight.  |
