I have been watching this horse for a couple of months and noticed connections had been either running him at the wrong distance or on the wrong ground to get his weight down,Cravat is now back to his best distance of 7f and has the preferred top of the ground conditions,he's dropped to a winning mark and also dropped in class. I took him at 20/1 with bet365 yesterday and have just noticed he is a best priced 8/1 this morning.
Is this one of the old fashioned gambles ? I think so!
Your logic is somewhat flawed - his last 3 runs have also been over 7F and 4 of the last 5 were over 7F with the other over 8F. I don't think the ground is so important either tbh.....what does stand out is that he runs much better in smaller fields and this field is still too big imo despite being handily weighted.

This one showed improvement of about one and a half stone on recent exploits over hurdles winning 6 on the trot before being lumbered with an official rise of 39lb from the start of his winning run and eventually succumbing to an eleven length defeat.
Jolly Roger had a recent outing on the flat being tenderly ridden by a new apprentice,if he can transfer the improvement shown over hurdled to the flat then he too can surely win his race. Current odds are 9/2 generally. He looks primed for this.

...another small neg is that a 3 yr old has yet to win this race but from a sample size of just three runners (2 last year and 1 the year b4) it wouldn't be a huge consideration.
What is interesting is that Jungle Bay who was 2nd last year and Annes Rocket who was 2nd the year before both try again to win the race. Jungle Bay is a few pounds lower than last year but the ground is a negative despite C-H horses (mr & mrs) being in form. Annes Rocket is actually a few pounds higher and 2 years older, looks hard to win with but ground and trip are right.
I am going to play Annes Rocket at 30/1 ish on here looking to lay off IR at 3.0 and 1.51 to cover stake and book some profit as the late run may look good but will it follow through.

I have watched some of CRAVAT's recent races and IMO Cravat has certainly flounderd on the soft ground conditions to which he had been exposed to,it was also evident he didn't stay 10f,as a consequence his Official Rating has dropped from a high of 91 down to the present 74 and he has also proved he can win off an OR of 85.
These tactics are well known to the avid racegoer/form student as a way of getting a horse handicapped to win.

Glad you had a payout, well done, but CRAVAT just missed a place by a short head which i had backed at 20/1 ew,there was certainly an old fashioned gamble on it.
