you said go off and test it so i did, i have wanted to collect some new raw data for some other research regarding certain yards and market moves so thought now was as good a time as any.
Raw data for a 2 year period july 2010- june 2012 was collected from http://promo.betfair.com/betfairsp/prices/.
i devised spread sheets with filters and organised this data to run your system for 2 years.
lay all 2nd,3rd and 4th favs at BSP when the previous race has been won by one ranked thus. the limit price was set at 16.0.
only uk races were used so there were no obvious clashes of races with same off time.
in the first 12 month period there were 4161 lays and the end balance to £1 stakes was -£51.72 based on 5% commission rate.
the second 12 months yielded 4142 lays and end balance to £1 stakes was -£93.74 based on 5% commission rate.
below is a break down of these lays by month for each period and finally an example of this breakdown for june 2012 (i have this for each of the 24 months but this thread would go on for a very long time if posting it all)
anyway i knew this wouldn't work, there was no logical theoretical reason for it to work and you could not offer one, the tone you took with me made determined me to put in a bit of effort to show it won't work. the betfair market is far too efficient for basic SP systems to work and this was very basic in the extreme.

if you get results to work you are doing it wrong you can test my data and i'll post every result. just pick 30 races from anywhere if i post the entire 2 years and go and see if the data holds up. yoour response was a 1.01 btw.  |

would you just test some of the results
when it says failed lay look at the market rank go to results and previous race and you will see the same rank won the race. when it says success look at previous race in results and you will see the selection was same rank but lost |

Stridingedge, admire you for exposing this looper, if you remember when this first arose in someone elses thread, according to RHM we were all beneath him in intelligence and that the majority of Betfair users were jobless oafs or words to that effect, yet this so called member of the intelligencia, still cannot see the facts put before him, also if I remember rightly, when first challenged by your goodself, filters and other adjustment factors were hurriedly introduced by RHM. If something occurs more than once in succession, our friend believes he has hit the jackpot, without seeing it's certainty to fail long term.

i can post the full sheets (thought they might be a bit wide but they should fit) these will have the lay prices and summation of all the successes and failures each month and these will show to tally with the p&l's at the top.
i only posted july 2012 as a test sample to show how easy the format is. it wasn't a walk in the park manipulating the raw data but the sheets i have now have full integrity and are very easy to see what's going on month by month. |
