For those who remember the 'will he run again' threads, it looks like Mark Pitman has him right finally and he should walkover at Ascot...

"Ascot racecourse (@AscotInsider) tweeted: "Frankie Dettori will be riding top-class racehorse Monsignor, who's on loan from racehorse re-homing charity HEROS whilst carrying the torch." (11 mins ago)"

My Mum asked me to put a fiver each way on him in the Cheltenham bumper, she likes religious names. I was going to stand it myself thinking it had no chance but as they were lining up I put it on at the last second. A bullet dodged Laugh

Stunning horse, Elise. One of my first big bets on at 5/4 for the RSA Hurdle in 2000!!

Does anyone know what sort of injury stopped him furthering his career, or was it a series of niggles?

Was at Warwick when he won at 1/14 - seen a lot of decent NH horses win at Warwick over the years, but Monsignor was a cut above, imho. I think it was more niggles than anything major that finished his career, but if he'd been with somebody like N J Henderson, we might have been talking about him a lot more today....

Seems such a shame, when you look at some of his form e.g. Beating Best Mate, you just can't help think 'what if'.

Maybe Pitman was just unlucky..

Ashley Park at least got his end away...

Monsignor is at a lot of the British Champions Series racedays as the 'Meet The Racehorse' feature they run - seen him a couple of times this year, and he looks magnificent and a great temperament.

The HEROS charity do great work, i'm glad i'm able to donate to them.

I was speaking to Mccoy recently and I berated him (in jest) over his ridiculously aggressive ride on Golden Alpha. He apologised and then said 'in fairness the winner was a bit special'.

And so he was - great shame.
