Guinness.. as I am an anti establishment type of guy I could watch the posh school scene at the end of the movie scent of a woman every day.. the headmaster attempts to blame the poor boy Charlie for the vandalism to his new sports car. al pacino defends him superbly and even all the rich boys cheer him on. well worth a watch and why the great british public do not do this thing to politicians, bank managers, cold callers, insurance companies, etc etc is very much a source of frustration for me...

Dod: Give Letter to Kremlin a watch (if you haven't already) Great cold war film, imo..
Conductor: There's no one more ant-establishment than my good self, and i fully agree with your feelings about them, but our similarities may well end there... Pacino's acting sends me to sleep (blind or not) To think of truly great actors over the years who haven't been given a 50th of his recognition makes my blood boil a touch, but each to their own. Kirschy i will reply to your list after Racing (when i have finished burying AP) |

hi guinness, I take on board your comments. I agree pacino is a tad overrated but his work as colonel frank slade was good. maybe it was the combo of his blindness and his good heart (yes we all have it somewhere)that made it an inspirational piece of anti establishment acting. take care and keep enjoying the blackstuff. which reminds me do you feel an opportunity was missed when they did not make a movie with regards to that 80s classic boys from the black stuff set in thatchers Liverpool. that may have been a classic.imo

Good evening conductor (if you're still about)
I don't think tv series make good films. BFTB was a great bit of tv for the time. Bleasdale got it just about right, Bernard Hill was an inspirational choice as Yosser, and has gone on to prove what a great actor he is in films and the stage. Would it have transferred to the screen though? Kirschy: Thirst is a great choice, Audition one of my faves. 10 was put in for a laff, right? 3 and 4 i haven't seen, Ran and Red Beard is stunning.Your taste has improved. |
