Of all the sets of colours worn during THIS Royal Ascot Meeting, there are colours that have PREVIOUSLY been worn aboard the winners of each of the FIVE English Classics.

You need to describe each set of colours and name FIVE horses that bore these colours to victory (you must name one horse for each classic)

Be careful, be very very careful.   Good luck

You mean 5 sets of colours, with each winning 1 classic?
Report blackbarn June 19, 2012 5:10 PM BST
Hi Ged, I am looking for a set of colours that won ALL FIVE classics and that set of colours is running at Royal Ascot this week.

I think there may be more than one answerWink

The maroonish colours with the yellow braid on the front, that someone in the Coventry had on looked like **** Hollingsworth (?) colours. Bireme or something like that?

The trouble with the old Aga Khan and the late Maktoum (Maktoum al Maktoum) is that there are no longer runners in these colours.

Ballymacoll colours the same as Sir Michael Sobell!, mind you he didn't have a 1k winner either.

Report themightymac June 19, 2012 6:59 PM BST
Black, White Cap, White buttonhole.

List of classic winners is endless but I`ll list one of each:

Derby - HYPERION
1000 - HERRINGBONE
2000 - GARDEN PATH
Oaks - OUIJA BOARD
St Leger - HERRINGBONE

Other 4 colours are Aga Khan, Abdulla, Tabor and Magnier
Report ged June 19, 2012 7:02 PM BST
The Derby colours are not at Ascot this week though, are they?
Report themightymac June 19, 2012 7:06 PM BST
Don`t know mate, I`m hazarding a guess although he only has 3 horses in training I think.

The only other colours I can think of that would fit the profile are the Sobell/Ballymacoll Stud of sky blue, yellow cap with white spots, but I think they have only been successful in 4 of the 5 classics.

Black jacket, red, white and blue belt and cap (1st Baron Glanely) - Colombo, Dancing Time, Grand Parade, Rose of England and Singapore; Society Rock in the Diamond Jubilee.

White, primrose braid and sleeves, white cap (Sir James Miller) - Rock Sand (x3), Aida and La Sagesse; Making Eyes in the Hunt Cup.

What about the Rothschild family?  Couldn't name the horses without googling but they've got Russelliana going in the Coronation.
Report blackbarn June 19, 2012 10:46 PM BST
Ged - correct, not sure how I missed Highclere.

The Mighty Mac, Lord Derby does not have a runner this week and pretty sure none of the several Aga Khans won all five classics.

SLB - great stuff!! Two points. Got any more?
Report wildmanfromborneo June 19, 2012 10:59 PM BST
Bahram won the Triple Crown in 1936
Udaipur won the Oaks in 1932
Rose Royale won the 1000 guineas in 1957
all owned by the present Aga Khans grandfather.
Report blackbarn June 19, 2012 11:11 PM BST
Correct Wildman. All owned by Aga Khan III so reasonable to assume they all wore the hooped colours.  Good stuff.
Report blackbarn June 19, 2012 11:18 PM BST
Scores so far

SLB 2 (Glanely and Miller)
Flyingbolt 1 (for getting Abdulla correct)
Outpost 1 (for getting Abdulla more correct)
Geoff M 1 (for Magnier Dark Blue)
Ged 1 (for the Royal Colours)

plus 1/2 point each to Ged and Wildman for providing valuable corrections to the questionmaster inputWink

Are there anymore?.  That is all I have.
