I don't think he would be fined for the double declaration as the horse could run in both races if he wished. I just find it strange that there is no preferred race indicated.

I know it used to be allowed cos I was at musselburgh once when a horse won the first race and then ran placed in a later race. probably a horse welfare issue now.

One example was on 1 July, 1974, when Bell came close to winning two races in one day with the same horse at Edinburgh. Traffic Leader won the seller before only being beaten by a length in the ladies’ race when ridden by Margaret.

I went along with a guy who was back home on holiday from his job with peter walwyn. apparently the other stable staff in lambourn knew him as "mad jock" I only found that out years later after he died when I was in lambourn looking at a horse (donkey) with tim thompson-jones.
cheers

TRTess - double entry fiasco aside - looks like a horse that should have only ever been run on turf - too many futile AW runs - surfaces on which the horse in no way acts
why do trainers repeatedly put horses through losing experiences in situations to which they have shown zero aptitude?

TOMS RIVER TESS (IRE), trained by Zoe Davison, was doubly declared to run in The Bhest Racing To School Handicap Stakes (Class 6) at Folkestone and The John L Havery 60th Birthday Handicap Stakes (Class 6) at Folkestone and ran in the former. The Stewards found the trainer in breach of Rule (F)96.2 and fined her £650.

That paltry fine in no way relects the pain and anguish suffered by punters up and down the country. If I had my way I would bring back the ducking stool for such appalling offences. At the very least Ms Davison should have been confined to the stocks overnight.

It seems inconceivable that an elementary error such as this can occur. As far as I'm aware there hasn't been any explanation from Zoe Davison as to how this occurred.

zoe davidson would only give an explanation to the stewards when asked, as it probably isn't an important enough offence for anybody else to ask.
does seem a strange one though when she actually has to sit down and declare the same horse for both races on the same day.
maybe the owner wanted both entries so he could pick which race to go for. he might have had an agreement with the trainer to pay any fine imposed.
