St Leger 15th Sept then Arc 7th Oct. Do you really think so? That is a 22 day break, no way.

You seem to be missing the point,Brigust.

It hasn't been done for 42 years. He's unlikely to fail through stamina. It's a logical target. So the "idiot" label is uncalled for.
Maybe he will ,maybe he won't but it would be a great achievement
Report tobermory June 2, 2012 4:38 PM BST
does everything have to run in The Arc
Report guinness2dear June 2, 2012 4:38 PM BST
I personally think they will go for it..
Report TheVis June 2, 2012 4:39 PM BST
Magnier thinks they will go for it too and that's what really counts.
Report tobermory June 2, 2012 4:40 PM BST
yeag Magnier pretty much said he is as good as there so don't get all these posts saying no chance , never mentioned The Arc or any possible alternative

This horse settles beautifully. Amazingly relaxed iaf.
Report Outpost June 2, 2012 4:41 PM BST
if they thought camelot was a great horse they would go for a great race.
there's a reason why nobody is interested in the triple crown anymore.
Report brigust1 June 2, 2012 4:41 PM BST
Last year's St Leger winner finished last in the Arc. Has no relevence and they are just going along with the crowd. He will not be running in the St Leger when AOB could win it anyway and not sacrifice the Arc. Money talks and everybody knows what bull s h i t does. Nijinsky did it and it cost him dear, could have been the greatest ever had he not run in the Leger.

He was falling asleep walking back to the stables. And never saw him blow either..
Report brigust1 June 2, 2012 4:43 PM BST
Ladbrokes sponsor it and have been pushing it like h e ll. Bet they won't refund monies if/when it doesn't run.
Report acey deucy June 2, 2012 4:45 PM BST
Who the **** wants to see him canter home at 1-4?
I hope they give it a miss,The Triple Crown is dead and buried.
Report tobermory June 2, 2012 4:45 PM BST
2 other points:

1. A 22 day gap is a big deal for most trainers but AOB's best horses have done that again and again over the years, so he could run in both quite possibly.

2. If neither Camelot himself or Frankel runs in The Arc it will be seen as a sub par renewal anyway and not a big factor in how the horses are rated overall at the end of the year
Report Rider June 2, 2012 4:46 PM BST
first i heard of a triple crown tilt was from the owner, not the crowd
Report flyingbolt June 2, 2012 4:47 PM BST
"Last years St Leger winner finished last in the Arc"

That's it then. Anything that runs in the St Leger might as well be retired.

Report howard June 2, 2012 4:48 PM BST
Yes I loved the triple crown but STS connections ruined it. There was a chance for a really great horse to do it. It wouldnt have stopped him winning the Arc imo.
Report johnoc99 June 2, 2012 4:50 PM BST
Alleged got beat at Doncaster and won an Arc.
Report tobermory June 2, 2012 4:51 PM BST
Think people are failing to appreciate the distinction between The St Leger and The Triple Crown.

The former is basically a Group 3 race in all but name and has little value in itself

The latter is something special which goes beyond financial considerations, which Coolmore will ppreciate, as evidenced by Magnier's interview

A Triple Crown winner would be remembered for decades. If people think this is not going to be a big deal in terms of hype etc they will be suprised in September
Report howard June 2, 2012 4:53 PM BST
tobermory I largely agree but if he wins the leger nobody in their right mind will think the horse is superior to STS.
Report andrewbjm June 2, 2012 4:53 PM BST
why not smash the irish derby and then leger and then go for arc next year along with the tatts gc, eclipse, king george and irish champion?!
Report ged June 2, 2012 4:54 PM BST
If he wins the triple crown, he'll go down in history, and be talked about for 40 years or more, just as Nijinsky is, because he'll do something which many had thought was impossible in the modern day. If he wins the Arc and goes to stud, he'll stand no higher in people's memory than a dozen others of recent times.
Report flyingbolt June 2, 2012 4:54 PM BST
On breeding there was a big doubt regarding stamina about STS,howard.
There is much less doubt about Camelot. If he did fail the "didn't stay" card can be produced. If he wins he goes in the history books as an outstanding horse whatever else he does.
Shot to nothing.

Paddy P0wer have put him in their Juddmonte betting!!!!! Shocked Shocked
Report tobermory June 2, 2012 4:59 PM BST
No i don't think he will be able to equal STS in terms of abilty demonstrated Howard.

I honestly (would like to be wrong) don't think he is all that good myself . But he should have no problems winning at Doncaster, and if thats all he does from here then he will be on a higher plane than most other  Derby  Winners

In terms of proving himself one of the greats as in handicaps marks up towards 140, then beating (or getting close to) Frankel, is how he would do that, and that is hardly likely to be in The Arc anyway so i just can't see why it would be a priority.
Report howard June 2, 2012 5:00 PM BST
Flyingbolt, there was about Red Rum. But more seriously I thought a mile was STS weakness and 14 furlongs was a cert especially because it was a very poor field that year and the ground was fast.
Report Andrew in Sweden June 2, 2012 5:01 PM BST
Nijinsky did it and it cost him dear, could have been the greatest ever had he not run in the Leger.

Nijinsky was a very sick horse (Ringworm) in the weeks leading up to the Leger / Arc. Couldn't even be saddled without bleeding.

22 day break between the Leger and Arc is ample for a fit horse.

They should swerve the Arc a dreadful race run in a dreadful country.
Report WalkingStreet June 2, 2012 5:37 PM BST
I'm sure they shall go for the Triple Crown, as an earlier poster mentioned, John Magnier more or less said they would. I loved his response to the straight forward question; " as you get older these things mean more to you"

They have won the Arc plenty of times in recent years with both French and Irish trained horses, Camelot would be the first triple crown hero in 42 years.

His programme would probably only include the King George before that, no way would they switch him back to ten furlongs for York's Juddmonte with a certain Frankel in possible opposition.
Report howard June 2, 2012 5:41 PM BST
Walking how would you bet at York ? I dont think Frankel would be shorter than 1/2 myself.
Report A_T June 2, 2012 6:03 PM BST
WalkingStreet agree - will go for the TC and probably miss the Arc. King George or Irish Derby before then.

Yes I think that's about right Howard.
On current evidence I would lay 4/7 Frankel and 2/1 Camelot.......assuming both lined up.

With Black Caviar heading this way as well, what a summer to look forward to on the British Turf and like all of us, Sheikh Mohammed is merely a spectator.
Report brigust1 June 2, 2012 7:59 PM BST
For all you guys who think Camelot will run in the St Leger the 1/2 widely available is a gimmee. I guess none of you will be taking it up though, eh?
Report differentdrum June 2, 2012 9:42 PM BST
Will be surprised if he doesn't run in the St Leger.

Plenty of nonsense talked about St Leger winners turning into NH sires -they were horses who needed the step up in trip and hadn't already won a couple of Classics. Don't remember Nijinsky siring too many NH winners.

Why not win the Triple Crown this year and return next year for races like the King George and Arc? The likes of Mill Reef and Brigadier Gerard ended their three-year-old seasons with far more runs on the board than Camelot is likely and they both returned at four.
Report howard June 3, 2012 8:44 AM BST
Some very good mile and a half horses have got beat in the leger. Remember its not 1m 6f its nearer 1m 7f. Everyone on here seems sure he will stay. Im not so sure especially if the ground turned soft.
Report zilzal1 June 3, 2012 9:00 AM BST
Shades of Shergar, id wait until nearer the day and i'll be sure to take him on if there is any decent stayers in the race, he'd either win or replicate Shergar imo

I can tell you that it is 99% certain that Camelot is being aimed at the St Leger, his targets before and after that are to be decided and your comment on the op is uncalled for brig
