Interesting to hear that the Hod was carried off from Yarmouth Dogs, it might have been the same one that was sold on ebay recently, not sure how much it went for in the end...

Racecourse Regular,
Was there two of them? Look forward to seeing you, this evening, at my beloved Yarmouth! |

interesting to see the duggie pye betting tickets have a home address on them.
would not be a safe idea nowadays i've still got 8000 of them but mine have the address of the northern bpa as a contact |

When do you intend using them adge ? A true Yorkshireman not throwing anything away !! As for skinto - why are you not helping me to find out who you are ? What one word best describes you ? 'Suave' 'sophisticated' 'debonair' 'bon viveur ( dammit thts two ) ' 'magnanimous' 'entrepreneurial' ?
As for Alan Pye and crosswords did he ever get stuck on 'Four letters, rhymes with 'twit' and lies at the bottom of a budgie's cage ? ' Perhaps some posters on here know the answer ? |

Good luck to all at this evening's meeting.
A couple of points: I bid for Alan's hod (unsuccessfully) - went for somewhere close to £300. My interest in the game initiated by my father who was a runner for Duggie Pye. Commission from Duggie and from successful punters set him up in business. Most memorable day he told me about was when Black Tarquin won the St Leger in 1948 - he earned about £40 that day. |

Hi Chris,
£40 in a day, in 1948, Wow! |

By:
Chris,
What would that equate to, today? |
|
By:
£40 in 1948 equates to £1230 today.

alan pye had a few holiday flats on an annexe to his home very near the river bure.he stood at yarmouth dogs a flap at the time and when i turned up on holiday with a retired greyhound he took an interest just in case it was going to run at yarmouth.evidently a lot of families brought their racing dogs with them and had a few races at the flap.
