Some feedback on performance this year.

Since tipping Synchronised for the Gold Cup Sir Tom has tipped 1 winner from 32 selections showing a loss of 27 points. For the year to date he is still showing an excellent profit of 43 points (but at mythical prices) and a modest loss of 4 points (at SP) so the true performance is somewhere in-between.

Tom on Sunday is on a losing run of 8 and is showing a loss of 5 points for the year to date.

The above just highlights how much easier the tipping game is when you are allowed to cherry pick prices.

By the way Sir Tom is miles behind Hugh Taylor in performance - Hugh also cherry picks prices but on the day of race which arguably is harder since many market moves have already taken place before he puts up his selections mid morning. Hugh is showing 108 points profit (at mythical prices) and 20 points profit at SP since the end of January.

Of the daily tipsters in the Racing Post (who have no prices to cherry pick) Richard Birch and Pietro Innocenzi are showing good profits - the others (Ben Hutton, Paul Kealy and Eddie Fremantle) are all losing bundles.

Hope this helps.

Pietro Innocenzi are showing good profits

Seriously?
Report wimbledon regular April 22, 2012 7:27 PM BST
Sorry - meant to say Richard Birch was showing good profits and Pietro Innocenzi was the only other one in profit (but not for long!)
Year to date at SP on recommended stakes:
Monday - Richard Birch +18pts
Tuesday - Pietro Innocenzi +2pts
Wednesday - Ben Hutton -22pts
Thursday - Paul Kealy -19pts
Friday - Eddie Fremantle -13pts

Ben Hutton, Paul Kealy and Pietro Innocenzi all seem chancers and guessers. Paul kealy had a great start and was 17 points up after 8 selections but his selections and staking plans have been optimistic and erratic to say the least.

The only weekday tipster worth following has been (to my surprise) Richard Birch who has consistetly put up winners and is different class to his Monday predecessor Mark Winstanley who was dire.

who bets to ISP these days????Plain...

Birch doesn't surprise me, as he's actually not a total mug. His writing and talk of getting these thick bets on with no problem with the bookies is very dull though.

As I have stated before Hugh is treading on very thin ground. As an avid fan of market movers I often find that I have backed his selections before he has tipped them..He is either...

(allegedly)

Backing them before they are online and then trading....
Letting others back them first..
Following the market movers and claiming them as his own...

I could not possibly know which one is true....

not a very big sample size to be judging people, kealy has tipped up a fair few winners in the weekender this year and i would say his selections in that paper are in profit, i dont follow tipsters ever just remember him been on a very good run with weekender selections.

why not just do the research/stufy yourself then you will have no one to blame

Re Kealy - his Weekender Tips during the Jumps Season have been pretty good(Flat record not great). Tipped up 1-2 in the Scot National on Saturday which will no doubt be higlighted on this week's front page!

^ What on earth is the point of that?  No tipster can show a profit in the long term at industry SP so you are wasting your time imo.
Report xmoneyx April 23, 2012 1:52 PM BST
the point is RP puts up unreal odds in headlines after its tipped up

most punters have to smell the sp coffee

even if it is industrial sp its still 1/14

worlds best tipster--should be adjusted

Don't be silly although I do agree with the first point.  And remember the RP don't use the highest price in the chart when calculating P&L.

Not a pw disciple, I'd really prefer if he didn't exist, along with HT,
but 1 from 32 is absolutely shocking tipping by anyone's standards. Bearing
in mind he's having two, sometimes three go's in a particular race. I seem
to remember a lot of his ante post bets at cheltemham seemed strange selections,
that were largely unsuccessful too, "and he's the world's best tipster" eh.

i personally think TS is very uncomfortable with the media attention he gets..i also think he feels trapped in a corner with nowhere to hide..a very unfortunate situation for him..the pressure is immense i'd say and i for one wouldnt like to be in his shoes....seems like a knowledgeable guy though and one i would def have a pint with...HT is the same...they know there beans and i am sure they make it pay outside of all the media bull****....imagine having the power of knowing any horse u tip is going be trading a lot shorter by mid morning....printing money that is these days...minted...no risk at all..none...zero..its like predicting the future in horse racing..everyone's dream ticket...and they have that power..whether they use it or not i dont know, but if i was them i would...wouldnt u!!!Cool

80% of winners are first 3 in the betting

so PW is already handicaped

they should change PW to pricewin

i.e.---if he wants to tip up a 7/4 let tom do it

You're all doing a good man down.

Tom Segal has proved year in year out that he is one of the best Tipsters ever to appear in National Media.

They all come out of the woodwork when any leading tipster has a bit of thin time or shall we say a natural cycle
or a fallow field.

The only tipster in history to hit the profits of the big betting firm and get his name in the financial pages..
Summer 2008?

all i can say is..TS is a bit like Alex Ferguson how many times have you lot had a pop or written him off
to this I would only use this phrase to a very select sporting group.

FORM IS TEMPORARY  CLASS IS PERMANENT

Report Sir Epicure Mammon April 24, 2012 3:07 PM BST
Well said Big X
Tom is a class act. He has to make his PW selections in the hardest races of the day on Saturdays or at the big festivals - usually multi runner handicaps. And his performance over many years has been exceptional.
Any punter can learn from how the guy approaches the task...look for progressive types, consider the Jockey booked above all else and bet more than one against the field where appropriate.
If you have that approach yourself of course the man is a damn nuisance because you have to try and get on the day before ( before he goes to press) or accept the fact you'll be chasing around bookies the next day if you want to get close to the best price.
Can hardly blame Tom for that though....just doing his job ...Very well indeed !

Big x, you tell that to his followers, who probably backed all 32 of the one's
he put up, he has all the time in the world, with every snippet of info at his fingertips,
will view as many races as many times as he wishes, normally concentrates on just a coulple of races. He
probably has contacts in a lot of stables to boot, so 1 from 32 is shocking stuff to be honest.

Better make that 1 from 33 now.
