high-lander...I am no fan of the English, in fact where I am from we have been shafted..However for you to claim that that Scotland subsidises England is laughable and I would suggest that take a bit more water with it !!

I'm sure those arriving at the main entrance via the station noticed the protesters today. Mainly girls in their late 20's and 30's. In appearance I would describe as ' earth women' or hippies; would not be hard to imagine them partaking in night orgies in the woods watched only by owls, bats, mice and hedgehogs.
They had the usual placard picturing a horse with a broken leg along with drawings of gravestones ect Could not help thinking how ironic it is that while those racegoers walking past them would not want to see any animals killed, the protesters themselves would most likely be hoping for a couple of high profile fatalities - and ultimately they got what they wished for. How effective these groups are depends on how much support they get from the mainstream press, and while I don't think the general public contain a higher number of anti-racing people than say in the 70's; I do fear a relentless campaign by one of the major daily papers could finish of NH racing as we know it. |

Messi you are just like your namesake that alleged "best footballer in the World" that wants tackling banned !! FYO Lionel would not even feature in the best 1000 FOOTBALLERS of all time and yet you would be in the top ten of liberal ****s.

If you were an animal would you rather be a steeplechaser than a Dartmoor pony(culled), a deer (culled), a badger (slaughtered), a dog to long under RSPCA care (on death row), a foxhound (doggy heaven aged six), an eventer pumped up with pain killers or perhaps you are a romantic and and prefer horses to roam the savannah as a wild beast prey to cougars, Lions, dog packs, hunger, drought, maiming by herd leaders. Steeplechaser is not to bad a life really for a stock animal.
If Steeplechasing was banned tomorrow I wonder who would adminster the bullet or steel bolt to 1500 animals, perhaps the anti-racing lobby would be first in line! |

sweeney-todd stop trying to cloud the issue, it's morally wrong to make animals risk death and injury for our pleasure.

Interesting facts
In the past 5 years (1860 days) including today, 860 horses have died on British racecourses. Clearly most of these have been in National Hunt races but a surprising number on the flat. 26 horses died at Aintree/40 died at Cheltenham and 37 died at Sedgfield. It seems that the ones at Aintree get the most publicity for obvious reasons but I think the public would be shocked by the overall figures. |

As the above poster points out this debate is driven by emotion and it is totally irrational. The same people who by choice would walk past a shop selling genuine free range eggs in order to go to a supermarket flogging battery eggs because they are 50 pence cheaper have the nerve to pontificate on such issues? It is total hypocrisy. There isn't a single horse alive which jumps unwillingly. I've seen jockeys cajoling countless horses at the start of races which have planted themselves and refused to move. Grow up and man up.

By:
If you ban Steeplechasing you may as well ban flat racing over a mile. It's seems every NH horse has been bred by a Derby Winner or a top class mile-1m4 horse. So they'd be not much call for breeding especially for people who keeps mares to breed with a good staying flat horse

highlander..It is hard enough to get a bet on as it is...I am no fan of the English but know the Scots are unable to govern..I am not Irish so work it out....
|
|
By:
That's a ridiculous point, animals are of a much lower intelligence than humans, they are under our control, so of course the vast majority of them will do as we train them to do. And in this case that means jump fences. You need to grow a brain and get yourself a better argument.

highlander man up for fooks sake.Contact Fatdodgy and live happily ever after.Oh and I am not Welsh !!

We Scots subsidise the lot of you and not only that we invented everything as well...TV, telephone, penicillin you name it. We have been carrying you lot for centuries and we're sick of it.

It is you who needs to grow a brain. Have you ever seen wild horses racing each other just for the fun? Probably not I'd guess. A more pertinent question was when did you last leave your grotty one bedroom bedsit or change your underwear? |

By:
Re forthcoming Scottish independence. English boat people will be turned back at Ardrossan. Hope this helps.

I'm not the idiot who said if we don't eat animals we will starve. Which is news to me seeing as I am doing fine despite being a vegetarian for many years. |
|
By:
homefortea what is your nationality? You claim not to be British or Irish...
|
|
By:
Oh now you're a vegetarian, how convenient
![]() |
|
By:
Actually it is irrelevant to the point. You said without eating animals we would starve. It is hard to think of a more idiotic comment. Until your next one of course.
|
|
By:
Of course the human race would starve without animals you fool.
|
|
By:
Nonsense. There is no need for people to eat animals unless they choose to. Not that I try to tell other people they shouldn't. That is their prerogative. Keep coming and I'll keep schooling you.
