Paid a retainer by this outfit, given a bigger cash sum than the one he obtained from the Holy Ghost, so as to keep Betfair customers up to date.

He fell over, a really awfull one, last week.

Take your retainer and enjoy it you salad dodging, overhyped, spoilt clown.

Loves himself a lot more than any horse in his care.

Fingers crossed Henderson has a storming Cheltenham and grabs the trainers title.

Information is out there before the market has a whiff; and people are still moaning. The stable deserves credit for preventing any leak, or acting on any information imo.

That's not much consolation to people who have backed him during the last few days, Cider.

That's called Antepost Dan, and most firms are nrnb in any case. Why would anyone want to take the risk this close to Cheltenham. Bleaters need to man up.

Which firms were NRNB last week? Ladbrokes only went NRNB today I think.

the positive is that had it been the henderson yard it would have been 9-1 by friday night, he's managed to hide it very well

Top marks to Nichols stable, obviously never acted on the information they had, hence why Kauto remained at about 4.8 on here. For once it's not only about the cash.

With this horse, does anyone feel the same as me that it just goes beyond money. I haven't backed him, but I don't think money or transparency would be the first things I would think of if I did. I was watching SSN and when it broke and i actually thought, ****, he's broken his neck and I was relieved to hear he was just shaken up. He's a special horse, we will never see the like of him again. I hope to god he makes it, but only if he is 100% because he is defending his legacy.

I think that everyone involved in the horse deserves a tremendous amount of credit for keeping the story under wraps until now.

If the story had leaked, been laid on bf for a statement to follow later then he would be criticised also, so in that sense it appears that he cannot win.

Whether you agree with the details of the story or not, now would probably be a good time to remember that without Nicholls Kauto probably wouldn't even be here at the top of his game at the age of 12.

He conducts himself extremely well in the media. He embraced the Kauto vs Denman narrative (for exmaple) and his use of his column, twitter etc ensures he keeps punters in the loop a lot more than he needs to.

So by all means disagree with the fact the story has only just been reported but I think everyone probably has a duty of respect for the trainer and the horse to not simply start slagging him needlessly.

Racing is a sport after all. It's not simply about the winning and the losing of the hard earned. Well not for me anyway.

good post neill. It wont be the worst news if he misses the race. His fall in the same race still fresh in the memory. Hes done enough to be an all-time great.

I just saw a post on twitter Howard that was to the effect that If Kauto Star does make it, the appreciation he will get on entering the paddock will exceed what anything else gets for winning, makes up for it in a way.

BTW I'm usually as cynical an auld **** as there is but not with this horse

Why are so many peoples first reactions to instantly think how this affects their pocket or antepost positions.

This horse is one of the all time greats of our sport.  The first thing that comes to my mind is his wellbeing.  I for one hope that he makes a speedy recovery and is able to take his place in the field, if only for the fact that it would make a fantastic sporting story were he able to regain his crown at such an advanced age.

But if its not to be it's not to be and all we will have been robbed of is a fantastic story.  At least the horse himself is still alive and we haven't been robbed of his presence on the planet in its entirety.  Get well soon Kauto Star.

Does that mean you anticipate Cheltenham purely for the pun ting oppertunities it presents 1st time?, that is, if you anticipate it at all? If I was like that I'd just stick with playing poker tbh.

Fair play to Paul Nicholls and Clive Smith for letting us know now,he was obviously hoping KS would get over the fall hoping for the best now there must be a big doubt in the stable that he will run in GC.
KS is a superstar and i trust in PN to make the right decision for the good of this great sport all the best Kauto and to the PN team.

Personally i think now would be a great time for the great horse to bow out. He has exceeded all expectations this season. His 5th KG should be his swan song. Good night and thanks for coming.Love

There are people who seriously think Nicholls deserves any credit over this? Him not saying anything is bad enough, but to use his blog on here to blatantly lie to the public is a disgrace.

As people have already said, if Kauto was responding to treatment, we wouldn't have heard a word about it.

If there's even the slightest doubt over him, he shouldn't run. He's already given us so much.
