very different proposition today imo, going from being drawn wide in small fields receiving weight last two runs on slow going to giving weight all around and posted right on the rail .... i'd be looking elsewhere for the winner of the opener
Report Cantthinkofaclevername February 23, 2012 10:14 AM GMT
Beachwood Bay for me. Up to 7 f and trainer/jockey combination doing very well.
Report Suffolk1 February 23, 2012 10:28 AM GMT
Mazovian looked visually impressive last run but I have a problem with the time.  On their last CD runs I have Mazovian very slightly ahead of Monte Cassino but today Mazovian carries an extra 23 lbs whereas Monte Cassino carries 4lbs less.
I don't think the weight reduction will allow MC to run any faster but I have to question whether Mazovian will able to clock the same time or faster with so much extra on his back. May well be improving fast enough to cope but too much doubt for me and combined with inside draw Mazovian has to be a Lay.
Report funnyoldgame February 23, 2012 10:49 AM GMT
inside draw also puts me off but good luck anyway, also think you might better the 9-4
Report werbie February 23, 2012 10:58 AM GMT
Yep ,that inside draw could finish him - will have to get out sharpish & away from the rail - slow it down & then kick off the final bend down the middle of the track - can be done but would want a lot more than 9-4 . Good Luck with this  carrot dangling class dropper Wink
Report SergeantMarcel February 23, 2012 11:30 AM GMT
Like the look of Dickie La Davoir here. Has run some good races on this track against some very reliable yardsticks for this course. Was slowly away over 6f last time at southwell and ran on late to be 2l or so behind Suddenly Susan. Also beat ingelby arch the time before at Sothwell, where again it was slowly away, and came up the ralis for an easy success over the 7f.
Think Dickie potentially has the beating of alot of these, and the conditions look ideal for it today.

Beachwood bay would have a great e/w chance a line through Mazonian on form I have Beachwood a lot closer Mazonian and the proce differential from 2's to 8.6 I know where the value lies..

No trading out for me old boy..I took the 9/4 and thought it a very fair price..of course the jockey and inside draw are a worry..but that is horse racing..good luck..no haters please..cheers

Report grendel February 23, 2012 1:20 PM GMT
23lb of dead weight surely gotta tell, probably take longer to get into a stride and up to racing pace
Report Roger De Bris February 23, 2012 1:26 PM GMT
the beast carried 8-8 with a similar effort. 9-3 today....9lb extra.....
Report grendel February 23, 2012 1:38 PM GMT
similar situation to last July with Mazovian when he won over 6f at Leicester under Noel Garbutt carrying 8-00 but could only finish 6th of 12 beaten nearly 14 lengths under the same jockey carrying 9-11 under a 6lb penalty 9 days later
Report Roger De Bris February 23, 2012 1:50 PM GMT
nothing similar at all...crazy analogy. This beast has been electric the last two times. Things could go t**s up quickly from this draw though and so many others wanting to be leading. I'd bang him out and take the 2 path, Bonnie Prince Blue will be slow away. He could flop as well having ran 2 career bests in a row. Not the type of bet I'd be running round the shops lumping on, at that price. 8/1 Blackmore, my cup of tea...

Winning time 1m 30.01 (slow by 2.71)
Mazovian 10 1/2 lengths off that time
Mazovian winning time last race 1m 28.99
Hard to know how much is down to the extra 23lbs and how much due to the way this race panned out.

In hindsight mazovian Was a poor bet..The draw/dead rail all the way round/jockey/weight/knackeredness..BUT some people agreed with me as it touched 11/8 (from 9/4) just before the off..thought the price was fair at 9/4..ran like a 90/1 shot ..

Draw rail had nothing to do with it st ignatius made all and ran on the far side to find extra nearer the rail.

Thats why i said it was knackered Roger(if you read it again)and if you think the ground is not slower (dead) on the inside then you are a fool..St ignatus may well be better than it showed if it won all the way round the inside(didnt watch it)..

Report grendel February 24, 2012 9:39 AM GMT
dunno what the win of St Ignatius has to do with whether Mazovian was inconvenienced from being drawn in stall 1 when St Ignatius was drawn in stall 2, world of difference if you do your research

I don't take the view that he bounced from 2 career best performances, I think a combination of factors contributed to the flop and would be interested in backing him next time if drawn wider and carrying less weight in a better race depending on the opposition
Report Colonel Trautman February 24, 2012 9:41 AM GMT
Grendel ROGER said it ran all the way round the inside and gave the impression it stuck to the rail from the offset..I said i didnt watch the race..So f ucked if i know what happened..I say it again slower ground on the inside..

stick at it Trauts, but read every word I said from the start of this thread. You have been mis-quoting me on this, plus saying the horse was knackered AFTER I said it first.
Grendel re-watch the trip Mazovian and St Ignatius both had, very similar, whether one was in the 1 box or 2 box became irrelevant, Mazovian took the 2 path due to BBB missing the break, then took the rail for the 1st turn to the home straight. St Ignatius had the 2 box but came across to claim the rail before the 1st turn and stayed on the rail to the home turn.
I'm not saying there isn't a dead rail there, there more than likely is.
I gave Mazovian a SF of 96 (9~3) yesterday, having recorder 111 the last twice.
I gave St Ignatius a 98 (8~5) yesterday, so the SF are quite similar for two horses racing close to the rail, regardless of one winning the other flopping.
