The idea of the column for the Racing Post and its bookmaker business partners is for followers not to get the prices, but still back the horses anyway, imo...

Had a long conversation about this with customer services on saturday after failing to get advertised price in the shop.He advised price available online or in shops that open 8.00am but he couldnt tell me shops that open at that time.

I emailed Channel 4 Racing about the Ubi Ace fiasco on Saturday before the race i.e.how 6/1 only was available, price didn't revert, Laddies manager couldn't understand how folk were supposed to get bets on etc.  I got a nice reply from the lovely Tanya saying she'd pass my email onto the fat hairy one.  Might get a mention on Saturday's Morning Line if a few more people email Channel 4.  I think Tom Seagal is their special guest.

i like the fact that whilst he is on channel 4 on saturday anyone that follows his selections wont be watching it as they will be knocking the bookies doors down trying to get £25 on his bets. be intereting to see if they mention anything about the pathetic limits the 'big 4' put on.

when pw highlights where the bookies have gone wrong why shouldn't they change their prices? seems logical to me. Millhouse is probably right

Every week on the Morning Line Stevenson interviews a bookmaker rep (this is obviously a commercial endorsement, which is against OFCOM guidelines, but hey ho), and while we're sure to hear about what they've "taken money for", and what "special offers" we can all "take advantage of", she will deliberately fail to ask the only question that the punters who keep her show alive actually want asking.

The bottom line is that there is no place for boat rockers on the gravy train, as the few journalists who still have their integrity remotely intact will tell you (the victimisation of Lydia Hislop for daring to actually do her job, is a prime example)...

Report millhouse February 14, 2012 1:40 PM GMT
Gonzo, surely the question Siralex is entitled to ask is where does it say in Ldbrks' rules, T and C's, advertising or media coverage that winning is not actually allowed...?
Report Dr Gonzo February 14, 2012 1:45 PM GMT
Quite agree, the issue of bookies closing accounts is one that no-one in a position to do so will dare challenge, and it's a joke. I'm absolutely in line with your own opinion on that.

But to act surprised at them closing a new account after you've been restricted on one is a bit daft.

but as my wife said, why cant she place a bet??? she has done nothing wrong??? she might only bet once a year but they wont even let her do that.

there have been many threads on the mccoy matter and punters are split on that topic, if she has started challenging bookmakers and their shady practices then this is commendable, welcomed and not before time, though i havent seen it first hand (or read about it anywhere) i'll take your word for it, millhouse
Report rcing February 14, 2012 2:53 PM GMT
why doesn't someone set up a union ( organisation type thingy ) to talk to the regulators of bookmakers ( the governmaent or mp's ) to discuss the problem of bookmakers taking bets of losers  , but refusing bets off winners .

if they refuse to take bets , maybe there licence should be refused . or they should be limited to taking the size of bet off everyone , so losers should be restricted like the winners are .
Report millhouse February 14, 2012 3:02 PM GMT
rcing, if you went into the Big Three's hospitality boxes at the Cheltenham Festival, I've no doubt you will find plenty of MPs enjoying lavish hospitality.

You could set your watch by one former Minister for Sport at World Hurdle day every year - he even presented the trophy for Ldbrks a couple of times.

The equally contemptible Philip Davies MP, who regularly fights the bookmakers' corner in parliament on things like FOBTs, lists Ladbrokes Hospitality among the privileges he has enjoyed...
Report rcing February 14, 2012 3:11 PM GMT
millhouse , they are taking the p.ss if thats the case . but like all things to do with mp's , its only a matter of time before a conflict of interest like this would come out in the press . such as the mp's expenses scandal .

doesn't matter if you are a mp or not, the public generally know right from wrong . its just in this case the public have not been informed , yet . thats why punters need to set up there own organisation . to show the discrepancy that occurs on a daily basis .
Report millhouse February 14, 2012 3:28 PM GMT
You are absolutely right, rcing...
Report Kildimo. February 14, 2012 11:14 PM GMT
I wonder if you were in court in front of a judge or a dury even what they would make of it?

Only those of us within racing know the scandal that goes on day in day out.

Would be interesting if someone could get them in court!

I believe that in the 90s a punters panel was set up but unfortunately it did not last long. Bookies need bringing to task about Pricewise and banning winning punters. And those flaming FOBT's

Report Kildimo. February 17, 2012 8:49 PM GMT
In todays paper i notice Ladbrokes made £360 Million from their FOBT's.

1 Million a day profit.

There is the reason you can no longer get a bet on.
