NEWBURY SAT ON OR OFF ?

Yeah all depends what you made of the Lexus Chase, my opinion was it was a bloody awful race. He beat a horse i think is overrated and a non stayer in Rubi Light, Joncol ran a shocker and the rest just ain't good enough. Then there are doubts about him turning up. Luckily i backed Quel Esprit well before the money came for him.

Bostons Angel is interesting and at the prices now i'd say the value, as you say Jessies horses are in much better form now. If i hadn't already gone with Quel Esprit and was playing the race now i'd probably back Bostons.

I live 10 mins from course and until today I thought it would def be on but think it unlikely now. Hard frost last night and it's not going to be as warm as forcast earlier in the week - I hope it is on as it's a cracking day. Newbury often misses the snow when forecast, def more touch and go than the newbury exec are making out!

I know the BBC weather is rarely accurate, but they reckon there's a fair bit more snow on its way for the end of the week. Fingers crossed it misses Newbury.

Surely if it's off they will re-schedule for next week? I would hope they are tentatively already making plans. This would be too good of a card to let fall aside.

Problem is Walter you're gambling on the Met Office weather forecast being accurate which is bigger than a 6/4 chance on any given day...

walter,the snow is forecast to miss Newbury, and if the frost covers have done there job,( which they usually do at newbury)it wont freeze at 0 deg when finally exposed on saturday.Hence the 6/4.

Covers been down for over a week now. Richard Osgood was quite optimistic today. I'd go for a Saturday morning decision.

clerk of the course comes across as almost confident even though he does not want it to appear that way incase it doesent go ahead. If it is racable today no reason why it wont be in a few days also factor in how big this is if it is borderline it will go ahead no doubht.

audi1 - the only reason the COC is confident is so that racegoers won't make alternative arrangements for Saturday and give the racing a miss.

anybody who has any interest in racing would not want to risk missing the meeting  one thing he or the racecourse wont have to worry about if the meeting goes ahead and that is getting a crowd it will be overflowing with people. I think it will go ahead no doubht about it.

last year it was run on the friday before ascot so i see no reason why they wont do the same.

iamajambo,When it comes to frost covers please don't compare Newbury or Cheltenham to other courses.These lads know what they are doing,i.e when to cover and how to cover.Neither of these courses have lost a meeting to frost since they started using the covers in 2006. If newbury is off this weekend it will be down to snow not frost,lets hope the snow misses newbury.

I live a 10 minute walk away and I don't think it's gonna go ahead to be honest. If it does, great. But I can't see it unfortunately. And the weather has been much worse than you guys mentioned. It reached -6 the other night, with possibilities of worse to come!

I am suffering "cold turkey" with no racing and i have developed the shakes.

45 miles west of the course and it's freezing Norn with snow predicted this evening - I know the course is covered but I'm not optimistic about it racing on saturday

this one really is on a knife edge . i can remember similar scenarios ...a bit of snow actually helps insulate the ground underneath i think , which we are led to believe is ok . however , more snow that is expected may  freeze solid  on top of the covers making  it difficult to remove them on the day . good luck to all at  newbury , only been a few times but a smashing course .

sounds to me like uwgs is looking to buy three or four pitches at newbury  before saturday , either that or he is really bored at home .
