Matt says:
- what about bets inrunning but prior to the void bet - more details of the account £1000 doesn't make sense - more details on the technical problem - is this account a 1 off...has it happened before with it? - Did the bot got awol on other races as it was placing a significant number of bets - little s**** at the 'personal devastation' - need the gambling commission to come in and verify all of this. - the amount is way too big ie £23m - will be up to us the punters to decided if this statement is enough or take it further. |

Tony "It was an obvious mistake" Calvin.
The o0nly way to deal with obvious mistakes in pricing, is to smash them, BIG. It's called Kelly Staking Criterion. |
|
By:
"At 4.41pm on the 28 of December, we announced that the in-play markets associated with this race would be voided due to technological failure in accordance with our terms and conditions. This is similar to the 'palpable error' rule enforced by other bookmakers in the past
So they're bookmakers now ![]() |
|
By:
" Ralph Topping, chief executive of rival gambling firm William Hill, joined furious Betfair customers in suggesting that may have voided the bets to help a customer that had gambled badly. "
Yep, and the Moon is made of cheese too ! .... it's no more than a cheap shot to attempt to discredit a market rival . |
|
By:
I think at the end of it it cost the punters thousands and betfair nothing.

In defence of Betfair, anyone who looked at their screen yesterday and saw 29m available to bet must have known this was not a common or garden rick. Putting up 28/1 could have been a typo, or it could have been someone who thought he saw the weightcloth fall off etc, but a 29m stake at that price could only be a system failure of some sort. Even on my best days, I have never had 600m in the account.
That’s in defence of Betfair. On the other side of the coin, both Tony Calvin and Stephen Morana have said that Betfair would have voided the race regardless of who had won. That’s wonderful, but what evidence do they have to back that up ? The fact is that an account with a balance of less than 1k was showing a possible liabilty of 600m for 5 (?) minutes, and they didn’t suspend the market. You can still see a picture of the trading window on the the Racing Post website and it makes a ridiculous sight. Betfair should trawl through all the bets and compensate anyone who has, or could have, lost out in any way, shape or form because of Betfair’s errors in letting this bet get on the screen in the first place and their subsequent failure to get it off the screen. |

There should be an independent audit to ascertain whether there has ever previously been any lay bets accepted where the layer has been over-exposed. In the event that such bets are discovered, the audit will obviously reveal that the bets were subsequently voided by Betfair. |

The only way that was ever going to resolve this was litigation..
BF were never going to take responsibility. |

Betfair was unique that it was person to person betting that uniquness(if there's such a word) is gone. It's not Person to person its person against a machine or a BOT to give it its title. How many of the BOTs are on Betfair..10's, hundreds, hundreds of thousands?. It really is like Samson v Goliath.
Someone like me that has to get up at 7am to get my 82 year old mum up and ready for the day, cook, wash etc then when i get an hour i study the form and back it up with a bet AGAINST someone who brought a BOT off some schoolkid with 12 O levels who can write a script for a computer, sell it on to punters who lie in bed from 4am Monday morning till 10am friday morning where they get up to collect their dole cheques and their Betfair cheques weekly and then go and drink and smoke the head of themelfs all weekend and not know an **** head from it's tail. Tho to be fair not all the bot users are scroungers some go and work but still have absolutely no opinion about horses and still make it pay. Gimmie the tradional bookie anyday. I may get limited but i will get enjoyment beating their opinion. |

Course players are permanantly in disbelief at some of the odds on offer. If it's too good to be true then you're probably live.

Well said, Ash.
Iv'e taken nearly all of my dosh out of here. Just left enough in to have a playabout, I don't trust the site anymore, it's been coming a while tbh, too many fark ups and downsides now to the site. This last escapade has ended a very enjoyable - up until 2 years ago, 11 years with the company. |

Tony Calvin: "It is an obvious error"
What happens if it happens again?? And again and again?...Are Betfair going to keep saying it's a 'computer glitch'. Have they just giving BOT users a licence to chance their arm with any figure on any trade and then say "oops it's a computer glitch" or if a horse gets beat AND they cop 10s of thousands and nothing is said? |
|
By:
People wanted just 1 answer. Instead they are left with hundreds of questions.

AD hits the nail on the head.........open house for "palpable error" now
|
|
By:
guardian article somewhere on here saying they are going to remove bots, dont on if its a spoof or who they got the info off
|
|
By:
I've been posting that article since 2002 1st time poster. I know it word by word now.

And just one more thing...
Even if this so-called customer only had 770 dabs in his account, who's to say he isn't a billionaire who's now sat on a beach in Jamaica enjoying some of the finest rum Sandal's has to offer.. |
|
By:
I think of the times when Betfair was customer friendly and then it became to big too quick and then the sharks moved in.

Presumably the bots owners pay premium charge ?
