IAN MONGAN, who earlier this year recorded a first Group 1 victory aboard Twice Over in the Juddmonte International, has criticised the state of Lingfield's Polytrack and urged trainers to seriously consider having runners at the track in future.
After partnering Shamir to finish unplaced in the 7f handicap at the course on Thursday, Mongan was unhappy withthe state of the kick-back and, after sharing his concerns with officials at the track, made his feelings clear on At The Races.
"We've told the clerk and those in charge but it seems to fall on deaf-ears," said Mongan. "I've never known kick-back like it and can seriously see a horse losing an eye.
"Jockeys are fine, we can put on two pairs of goggles but the horses have no protection and it's not fair. There's some nice horses running here today but I'm not sure that would be the case if they [trainer and owners] knew what conditions are like.
"The main reason I'm speaking out is to tell trainers and owners to think again before having runners at the track.
