how many honest people retd their winnings on the disqualified horse tday?
standing at nottingham tday on course i can confirm nobody and of course plenty to pay out on the rvised winner.
disgusted at punters lack of integrity, it was a sad day in what is usually a fantastic profession with great interaction with punters.

Why should anyone return their winnings if they've been paid out and no rules were broken on the part of the punter?

If the jockey weighed in light then the bookies obviously must have paid out before the weigh in and if there's a stewards' enquiry and the winner is thrown out, the punters who have already been paid are allowed to keep the money and I don't see what the problem is. The bookies make the rules not the punters. Have you ever stopped to think though that just maybe one of the reasons bookies pay out before the weigh in is so that punters can have another bet with the money? Much of which will be lost again on the following races and the takings on those next races would probably go down if they had not paid out earlier.

If you want to say it's morally wrong then that's another matter but how many times has a moral victory been in the punters favour but the bookies have insisted on sticking to the rules and not paid out? I know I've been a victim of this a few times and even been told by the bookies they know what I've said is true but they still aren't paying anyway because of the rules.

I've even lost money when the local stewards have broken their own set in place rules and made it up on the spot to make a "moral" judgement and the bookies were happy to go along with that when it suited them. I've also seen different decisions being made on different occasions for the very same offence, even though there are set rules in place to cover them. Don't get me wrong, I've given money back before in a shop to the girl on the till when I've been paid out too much, as that is a genuinely mistake.

mmmm............ We want the best odds equivalent to what's on the machine mate! Oh and we want a quarter the odds a place as well mate (yeah and we know we can't get it on the machine), and we also want you to bet to zero percent mate and if our horse gets disqualified we will leg it with our 'stolen' money and spend the rest of the day avoiding you! Oh and by the way, on-course bookies are ripping us punters off! LAUGH - YOU COULDN'T MAKE IT UP!

and no doubt those who laid the FPP  but bet it back on the machine got burnt twice in their capacity as commission agents? Maybe BF will look after the poor commission monkeys?

How many times over the years have you seen threads started with members posting on here to complain about how slow Betfair are to settle the result on the previous race? Why are they complaining? Because they want to use the money to bet in the next race and if they are doing it on here under generally relaxed conditions then why would betting shop punters or those at the racecourse be any different? Especially when they are more likely to get caught up in the moment with everything going on around them.

I've even seen punters in shops rushing to put bets on and then tell the staff to take it out of a winning ticket they haven't collected yet......a fool and his money and all that.
Report ph. • October 27, 2011 1:47 PM BST
even seen? That happens 100 times a day in every shop in the country.
Report ima_mazed66 • October 27, 2011 5:35 PM BST
I used the expression even seen meaning for specific circumstances where although the punter has already won a certain amount of money, their bet was still going with further legs to come and it's generally frowned on by betting shop staff and have seen them have a go at punters for doing it.

They also tend not to like it if punters go up and don't say anything until the new bet is on before telling them they have to collect winnings before they can pay again.

i got paid out e/w terms on the second ice nelly, can i then go back and say hold on that was a winner i want the full payout ??
Report ima_mazed66 • October 28, 2011 5:16 AM BST
I would argue you should do lagmorian because they are meant to pay out on the official result. I'm not saying you have done anything wrong here either but it does prove the point that generally punters want to be paid out as soon as they can be, which is fair enough and I don't know how much time went by between you being paid out and the announcement of the objection but had anyone gone to collect after the announcement then there wouldn't have been any problems.

To resolve it then as yo say jimnast, have the bookies only pay out after the official weighed in and they are already free to do that anyway but we all know why they don't and that's to keep the punters turnover of money going faster.......How does it help the punter too when a stewards' enquiry reverses the result and then bets are paid out but then the connections later appealed and get the race back again? Or that should read "helped" as in past tense, as you seemingly can do anything now and still keep the race.

judging by the way the majority of railside bookies dress I would say that yes it is a very difficult game for them. You certainly wouldn't get anyone that worked for betfair wearing clothes that wereb't manufactured in the current century.

If I had been on track I would certianly have returned my winnings ......
