On reading that Ruby Walsh is going to be selective in what he rides in this country, because of the new whip rules, somebody as good a jockey and horseman as Ruby, should not have a problem. He very often gets the best out of horses without hitting them too much, and if he can not achieve this without striking them more than 8 times, then the horse would not do any better anyway. If he keeps within the letter of the rules, and the horse does not win, he has done his best in the circumstances, and what more can you ask of a jockey?
rubys booK , he says of keeping count, anyway where he is in the race they know the racecourses how to ride them and idea of some sort how good bad the animal is .Now the brain is muddied to take in new rules . Re TRIAL PERIOD WAS REQUIRED to assist the adjustment to the rules . presumably, the backtracking by B.H.A.CONFIRMED SOME JOCKS INABILITY to get a grip straight away ,as you would expect . New rules will be flouted anyway by a small percentage probably 1% as it stands from new rule kicked in,not a disaster by any means ,now honest common sense must prevail .atthe end of the day all brought on the agenda through a 1% jockey , and grand national fiasco setting ball rolling ? jockeys should be enlightened somewhat their is a longstanding rule to ,,get best placing in race for ALL their mounts , in foreign lands any rules go regards the whip, but also best placing must be achieved or they , jocks get a really good holiday , license suspended ?NEEDS TO HAPPEN HERE IF STEWARDS DID JOB PROPERLY .....
