Or then again maybe the best rides are taken by those already associated with the yards and as a freelance he has to try to pick up what's left.
At this time of the season you aren't going to get much quality at Brighton and an evening AW meeting at Wolverhampton, assuming you get quality there at any time of the year and so they are scratching around taking any ride hoping that an odd one comes up trumps and that by being willing to ride a particular stable's bad ones that they might get to ride one of their better ones too.
Paul Hanagan doesn't exactly have an inspiring book of rides tonight either but there's not really that much left, with many stables trying just to squeeze a win out of the horses in their yards. This thing about stables not using Fallon is more a figment of punters' imagination than anything else.

Agree. Most of Hanagans outside rides have been worse in recent weeks. I dont think most trainers would care if Al Capone rides if he had happened to be one of the best jocks around.

Its testament to what a terrible job his agent has done that fallon IS the best jockey, yet he struggles to get him on 8/1 shots for the likes of Milton Bradley. Its not just a north/south issue here: hanagan typically has the best rides at wolfer and kempton too.

LOL...As I keep saying Aviboyd, I only wish I was his agent if it meant getting a share of the £1.7million Fallon has won in prize money.
He has 8 rides today and for 7 different trainers, at some stage this season he has ridden winners for both Godolphin trainers, Stoute, Johnston, Hannon, Fanshawe, Haggas, Swinburn, Morrison, Elsworth as well as many other smaller trainers and even rides 2 tonight for Ed Dunlop, who if anyone was going to could shoulder Fallon you would expect it to be him.

fallon had 1 ride at newmarket yesterday, and at kempton he had a worse book than hanagan, who rode a double.
today fallon was due to have only 2 rides (both n/rs) at brighton before going on to wolves.
poor stuff.
for example it's surprising he hasn't managed to get on more of the haggas horses recently. tony hind did a great job last year getting richard hughes on 'other jockeys' horses as a one off. no one concerned seemed to mind - in contrast they appeared happy to help out.

Fallon's ride at Newmarket yesterday was for Haggas and Haggas has also given Hanagan plenty of rides this season too. Some trainers or owners like to keep the same jockey on their horses if they can if they have been successful for them. They are only allowed to ride at 9 meetings a week and if any jockey thinks he has better rides at an evening meeting then they will leave there as early as they need to, to be on time for rides at the other meeting. Both jockeys rode for Haggas and Paul D'Arcy yesterday and Fallon had a ride for Haggas at both meeting but presumably went to Kempton mainly to ride Cumani's horse and also rode in an earlier race than Hanagan, who stayed for more rides at Newmarket before go to Kempton for the later races.
I didn't think Hanagan's rides at Kempton were anything special and no better or worse than Fallon's but credit were it's due, he still rode a double although one was a 20/1 shot and on paper looked the kind of ride that Fallon's agent is getting criticised for booking. Fahey had one in the last at Kempton too that Hanagan rode.
The thing about making a point from over a year ago is that they are hard to prove otherwise once it's that long ago but I don't really recall any particular push from trainers on Richard Hughes's part from last season. What might have helped him though was to be in the seat for horses Ryan Moore might have ridden if not injured.

yesterday fallon didn't have a ride in the first 5 races at newmarket, his home track.
there was a major push from owners, trainers and even other jockeys to help hughes last year. for example when he couldn't make it to kempton in the final week, he was then able to go to wolves at 24 hour notice. he picked up 3 rides that already had other riders booked, all 3 for different trainers, and they all won.
i'm sure tony hind played a big part in hughes closing the gap to 2 after his late suspension last year, but my point is we've seen none of this for fallon.

they all get suspensions - Fallon has lost 14days De Sousa has had as many while Hanagan has virtually none. Are you a Hughes groupie or Tony Hinda's brother?

and there the answer. Get nothing for being a moral winner. maybe the real reason is that for the past two seasons he kept getting banned, by breaking the rules. Maybe next year, maybe not....lol

As has been mentioned though they can only ride at 9 meetings a week and if there was nothing else there for him at Newmarket then what can he or his agent do? Maybe he rode the Haggas one because it was it was a Cheveley Park owned horse and he has a long standing relationship with them and if he also knocked back that one then he might not have been able to ride the Haggas one in the evening meeting or any of his future ones.
I'm sorry too but I'm not totally convinced about claims of what owners, jockeys and trainers did for Hughes last season and I also thought the jockey bookings had to be cleared well in advance and they would get fined if they didn't take their rides, just as Hughes did when he stopped riding last week and I also remember jockeys previously wanting to give up a mount to let another jockey try to go through the card and it wasn't allowed.
