How has it been going? I have seen no racing, are the jocks riding them out now?

It will be interesting if in say a month or two someone does an analysis of all races to date and the distances between horse finishing first and those finishing down the field.

I reckon the mean averages will show a huge disparity between the overall distances pre-rule changes and those currently being run, suggesting that fewer horses are now being ridden out to the line and therefore throwing the whole of the form book and handicapping into chaos.

some jockeys aren't even pretending to try any more.

the few that are trying are fighting out the finish with the rest dropping away tamely rather than the jockey risking a whip ban.
far better for some just to turn up every day and collect over £100 per mount than for them to try and win and risk losing their livliehood.

What about now, LL? I am thinking of having a bet today. This situation should make the current crop of jocks learn to judge a ride better or perish imo. We must adapt, I can't see then rescinding the rule.

Indeed Lucan -

- and we still have the Heavy ground of Winter to come over the Jumps.

Should be fun in next's year's silly Shergar Cup - Where they are all meant to ride out for points towards the Team totals.

That, of course, including all the invited overseas jockeys, who do NOT have such whip restrictions in their home countries.

With  a bit of luck - It might sound the death knell for the Shergar Cup.Blush

Rod Street and his deluded daydreamers at Racing for Change - wearing black armbands as I type.

So saddo, let's just suppose the rule remains in place.

If so, how do the stewards react in relation to the other rule which insists that all horses should be ridden in order to achieve the best possible placing?

Will the stewards now be obliged to count the number of whip strokes administered to every horse to ensure that jockeys have used their full quota.

If jockeys do not use their quota then by implication they have not attempted to achieve the maximum effort from the horse.

They obviously had not thought of that one -

In their (10 month Blush) haste to bring in the Whip restrictions.
